Slik 50 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I know this may border on the max power stuff, But I had to borrow a mates car the other day it was a V6 vectra and he has an induction kit fitted ( it was on it when he bought it) But I was completley fasanated by the whistling noise it made. Now I want one (just for the whistle) but I cant find one anywhere for the 2.8 so I was wondering what you lot knew about them? Are they just a filter on the end of a pipe or is there somthing slightly tuned about the length and bore of the pipe, Is there anywhere you guys know that sell them? , Have any of you lot fitted them to any of your motors?, Do they all whistle? Any help would be appriciated
Mark2Mark Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Hi mate "induction kit" is just a term the companys use to charge you an extra 30/40 quid for a bit of pipe! But any free flowing filter is worth fitting i had one on my series 1 turbo it sounded great, not sure about the whistle though the only whistle i got was from the turbo.
DEP Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Could try Halfords, they do sell the K&N 57i induction kit....failing that Burtons i guess
caprifan Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 ...if you want cheap noise on a 2.8...get a K&N panel filter and then drill some holes in the air box......sounds like induction noise but its just the air box vibrating because of the holes........ ..will have a panel filter for sale soon....and a drilled box
Slik 50 Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 I already have a K&N pannel filter fitted and I suppose it does its job! I have tried websites of K&N, Pipercross, Green ect but can only find one for the 2.9! This Vectra one though sounds frikin amazing! From idle, if you touch the pedel just a touch it makes a whistle up to about 15-2000 rpm then disapears, Then it starts to growl around 3000 rpm. Now if I go out and spend £150 on an induction kit and it dost whistle them im going to be proper p*ssed of, Thats why I ask if any one has fitted them and what theres sounds like. Most people seem to buy them for performance, All I want is that whistle! Sad I know!
Mark2Mark Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Just bolt on a turbo HEY PRESTO!!!!!!!!!
Slik 50 Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 LOL I wish I could but Im to frikin skint at the mo

steve dray Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Bah! Air filters are for girls!!!
Dom Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Induction kits? Rip off, boy racers think that it gives them an extra 500bhp. You can get cheap airfilters that are pretty much exactly the same, we've got one on the capri but when you drive it the induction is nearly as loud as the exhaust.

See thats what I want I want noise, but I dont want to pay ££££ for a filter and a bit of pipe. Dom, what is it you have got fitted to the capper?
caprifan Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 ...the problem with the 2.8 is that the filter is soooo far from the throttle housing and goes through the airflow mixer thing so you won't get proper induction noise........drill your airbox.....it fakes it so worth a go and will cost you nothing
D A N Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Some induction kits are rubbish because of their postion in the engine bay.
Dom Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-HIGH-PO ... dZViewItem That basically, my dad found a bit of pipe to fit and fab'd a bracket to hold it.
Morley Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I may be wrong but from what i understand you wont get an induction kit for the 2.8i because of the way that the fuel injection works
Mr Sam Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 theres some JCB cone filter you can buy off the shelf for £7 and as its designed for some behemoth diesel it flows well at the moment ive got a drilled airbox but in summer i use a cheapy uni fit cone filter and some piping scavenged from me old volvo
Daveyboy20 Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I was gonna fit my 32/36 carb and kandn filter to my cortina but ive got one of these is it worth maknig a pipe to it from the top of the carb or just stick with the kandn? Noise wise as well as power!!!
Fiesta Steve Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Have you Capri boys with the 2.8 tried just removing the filter ? and have you heard what it sounds like ? Lets face it, you don't need a filter in those things 'cos anything big enough to do any damage won't get past that fart flap thing.
spooner Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I may be wrong but from what i understand you wont get an induction kit for the 2.8i because of the way that the fuel injection works pipercross made one for the 3i,it was a compleat replacement for the base of the air box.i'll try 2 find a pix.

caprifan Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Bike carbs x6 and Mega spark ...mate I have so though about that...even know what carbs to get as you need banks of three for the V..........the problem is the inlet manifold because its in a V......it would have to be custom made and not sure if its viable........... ....if you know who could make a manifold and want to make it a feature
Messenjah Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 http://www.boggbros.co.uk/index.html make manifolds for the kit car boys ... speak to them im sure theyd have a stab at it
Trevmk3 Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 slick has the vectra got an eckotech valve fitted, as my mate got one for a polo and that made a whistling noise. Is this for the sierra that were talking about you wanting one for? any high flow air filter will give it that extra growl, i got a green cotton for the astroid and it sounds better. i even manage an extra 30mph top end
