72mk1escort Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 What are you doing with the 1300 Pete? I will probably be getting rid of it mate Whys that?
72mk1escort Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 sounds about right, so thats an extra 10hp realy does getiing rid of the lame fane and fitting an electric is good for an extra 10 bhp I understand how taking off the fixed fan can increase BHP but as for the fuel pump how does that increase the power is it because the cam doesnt have to drive the mechanical pump?
Rick Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 yes as far as i know only prob with electric pump is if you crash and burn its still pumping fuel

Josh is looking for a 105e, wants an 11 or 13 crosser until his insurance goes down. Okay mate i will let you know once its out all i would want is £150 if you wanted it Only reason i say £150 is because i had to do the head gasket and ive fitted a stage 1 cylinder head Also is josh the one i met who's your son??
72mk1escort Posted October 8, 2008 Author Report Posted October 8, 2008 Picked up the engine last night and all is good just gonna get it out of my Dads van today and get it into the garage so i can give it a nice lick of paint and get it all ready to go in Anyway i will add some pictures later on for you all
72mk1escort Posted October 9, 2008 Author Report Posted October 9, 2008 What compression roughly should the engine be putting out with that spec as im going to connect and old gearbox and starter up and check the compression before i paint it all up
72mk1escort Posted October 10, 2008 Author Report Posted October 10, 2008 Right my Dad has had a good look at the engine and theres no way its done 150 miles and the engine builder whos meant to have built it a year ago went 3 years ago ive phone him and im getting my money back tomorrow and hes getting his crappy engine back theres no way its worth that
5hane Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 m8 the bits are worth it !! keep it and ge a fresh bottom end !!
72mk1escort Posted October 10, 2008 Author Report Posted October 10, 2008 Also the guy at the engine builders said the only crossflows they built were 3 of them all for the same bloke who used to race fords so i am guessing this engine has been used for racing
DAZZA Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Sh*t news Pete. It will always be a lottery if you cant hear something running or have full documentation. So if the goods fail to meet the description, get your money back. Oh.... and id change the thread title.
Mad Mex Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 so whats actually wrong with it pete?.....
72mk1escort Posted October 10, 2008 Author Report Posted October 10, 2008 Nothing visible but its done lots more miles the core plugs have recently been changed (again) did have bolt and washers to hold them in now fitted with no new washers! Also things like the waterpump have been put on with loads of hermetite which is very bodgey in my opinion. Also inside the thermostat and water pump looks very rusty and i cant believe i didn't spot these bits when i looked at it also i shone a light through the spark plug hole and the pistons are dirty and black My Dad said if he had to guess he would say its done at least 60,000 miles

J Elvy Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 well i allways use flange sealant on everything along with the gaskets as the paper ones normally seep, some people are just a little neater with it than others and peel off the dry excess! i still think its worth putting in your car if your engines already out as its not a very expensive engine and others have already offered you 200 for the carbs! if it looks a little shagged, ive had a few xflows apart that were running sweet but then you look the pistons are really loose in the bores etc and they still scream and are quiet!! worth a go mate if you have the time and if its no good then take it back! what you got to loose and as for black pistons thats normal, its just carbon deposits and normally a little worse if its been running a little rich! the engine has been built well if donald built it and having lasted 3 years means if its still running ok then surely its not going to break now!! or its in need of a hone, rings and new shells! It'l be nice to have someone to race in my 4 door if the engine ends up being any good!!
