72mk1escort Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 is it still for sale and does it still have the webers on it etc etc The guy said hes going to keep it as a spare
mk1ian Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 can you tell us all what you were expecting for £500?

Daggle Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Hi everyone I took the engine back yesterday and the guy gave me my full £500 back I wont be doing that again As Yoda would say, Mmmm Young one, learn you will. £500 not much for engine, I say.
caprinerd Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 its a crossflow you dont even need a crane to drop it in or pull it out, should have tried it out, think you made a big mistake there, i know of at least 2 people local to me that would have bought it at that price, big mistake, BIG mistake
Ratters Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 big mistake to return it as said esp without even whipping the head off or dropping it in & trying it well worth the money really. my x-flow owes me about three times that amount!!!
5hane Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 my block ows me £200 m8.. (711 rebored to 1700) and then if its been ported and stuff.. all it means is a bit of wire wool and elbow grease !! and it would have came up like new and the 40's with manifold, AND linkage would have been worth keeping it for.. (carbs £150 - 200 2nd hand, manifold £50-70, and linkage 70 ish £ maby ) i would say you have shot urself in the foot m8
Rick Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 but the big question is: whats his phone number
mk1super Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 I'd have given it benifit of the doubt an at leased run it in the car
Savvi Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 I can't believe that you took this back......... i know monies tight but i just don't think you'll get a decent spec 1600cc 711m block with all the bits for that sort of money. I think if the guy has took it back then he believed it was the spec he told you and propberly had 2nd thoughts of selling it any way. I paid over £800 for a decent spec (1700cc bored out, 1300 pistons, lightened balanced, head done etc i supplied most things just paid for machining and labour for re-build) 10 years ago without carbs etc. I have to agree and say you should have at least run it up
antz Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 i cant believe you took it back!!!! i would of had it in the car in a morning. fired it up and gone for a test drive to truly test the engine out. guess were all different though
Rick Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 not to rub it in more but email an engine building company and ask what they want for: Its a 1700 Crossflow only done 100 miles since rebuild: - Its been lightened and balanced - Twin 40's - 4 Branch Manifold - Luminition Ignition - Ported and polished - Big Valve Head - Steel Rocker Posts - Double Valve Springs - Jeff Howe Cam you wont have change from 3k i bet and i doubt theyl paint the block either
