flyingbanana Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 check the thermostat......i had a new one in mine and sure enough it went within one month and it wasn't opening
countrybumpkin Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 have you flushed the rad? also try a new rad cap
V8ian Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Fit new 88deg stat, that normally sorts out overheating probs.
geoffersmasher Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 fitted a new thermostat before i fitted the pump sytem has been drained and filled, no air locks whats an 88 hemostat ian??
Gonzo Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Opens at 88 deg c, whereas original ones may open at 91 or something? Could be a build-up of sludge in the block... There's some stuff you can get from Halfrauds that you bung through the cooling system that breaks it up so you can flush it out. Tends to take a wee while though.
Deano1351 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 What fan is on it, my old escort had the old viscous fan and although it spun it didnt have any pressure behind it, i could stop it with my hand with the engine running and warm, let your engine warm up and turn it off, if the fan still spins freely by hand then its knackered and needs a large bolt through it to make sure its on all the time, if youv got a leccy fan ignore everything iv just said
Toby Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Mixture and timing can affect it - how over heating is it? Same sender and temp guage I assume, cos they can read different.
Yeomans22 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 run it without a thermostat in, but ur heater will be crap now its cold.
Haynesmanual Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I put a new thermostat in my anglia and it overheated it, It would not open so i cut out the center.
geoffersmasher Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 ill take thermostat out, but it was running without one when it went wrong it was like a switch flicked a couple of weeks back and it just started overheating rad is fine no real dings or anything i guess ill take it to ol wpe if i get stuck
72mk1escort Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 If the timings been advanced to much that can cause overheating Also you could have a blocked rad. Or you have a dodgy temperature sender. How hot does it get
geoffersmasher Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 i can feel the heat in the car after a while
geoffersmasher Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 is head gasket ok?? i havnt seen any leeks or anything
old skool freestyler Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 you dont normally see leaks on the outside of the head sometimes you do but best to get a pressure test done on your head mate it a quick easy job and most garages can check it
