richie_stix Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 need a daily hack for the 70 mile round trip to work and back, no way I'm going to put that sorta millage on my cappa! not to mention the fuel bills... so i need some advice, what piece of shit shall i go for, I'm even considering diesel! so, it needs to be between £500-1000, around 50 ish mpgs and mechanically sound... rust and being battered aint a worry... what do people recomend? Embaresment aint a problem!

Supercharged Nat Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 i just got hold of a vectra 2.0L diesel for 150 quid with 8 months mot. 140 thousand on the clock, runs sweet as a nut. theres still pleanty of bargin out there! just have to look in the right place (body is solid too, slight rust starting on the rear arche buts it 10 years old!)

Got a 57 diesel fiesta van on hire at the moment while Haynes try to put out the management light on my firms transit, goes like a rocket (tis unladen though) well compared to the tranny.

It'll be a diesel then, if you want good MPG Mk1/2 Mondeo? 1.8T. Goes alright and fantastic on fuel. Get a Ghia/LX/GLX and you'll get some goodies aswell. Uncle recently sold a immaculate one for only £400
