right... im so annoyed!!!!

MOT time on tuesday!!!!

and the car has started to get worse with its darting around the road, at first i though it was cause the TCA bushes were buggered.... so i replaced them....

no change...

so i then got the tracking tracked up... no change... so i went back and made them check their measurements and do it again.... more stable and turns in a lot better... BUT

when im on the motorway for example, the car will suddenly decide its gonna dart to the right, n then dart to the left, instead of staying streight and true, if i let go of the steering wheel it goes streight and true... so it doesnt really point to the tracking...

and its certinally not the bushes!!!

also, when i reverse, full lock to the right, it feels like the car is lifting itsself up, then dropping down again, over and over again, like bouncing over the left hand wheel in reverse????

quite violently....

ive given everything a whack and a wobble and everything seems sturdy and nothing is loose!!!!

also new front wheel bearings (may i add) lol and the test u grab the wheel while the car is in the air doesnt give any secrets to whats loose away...

so.... wtf is the problem...

god i hate cars!

lol! 8)

That sounds very much like tramlining to me.

My Capri was a bugger for it. Is it in any lane, or just lane one where the lorries run?

but what about my wheel bouncing a bit when reversing full lock left??? quite bad! =(

yehhh its like tramlining, but it never "follows" the lines really, lol, my old car used to tramline, splitter diffuser and skirts later it never did it again.

thing is, its never done this before now :x why would it suddenly start.

p.s. checked the RH caliper and it was a bit wonky, but when fixing it i broke a brake line so i havent had chance to test it yet lol!.

ah well, gonna check the other side today n chop a bit of the studs off, cause the nuts are closed nuts and tighten up far far down the stud, might be biting the stud before biting the wheel lol!

wider tyres, diffrent offset wheels on it? mine both do it on the slow lane, (i don't use that lane much)

many cars "bounce" in reverse on full lock, changing tyre profile can sort that, i'd just live with it, my escort can't get full lock as the tyres hit the bulkhead. i live with that also.

brand spanking new gaz items :mrgreen:

same for the springs, although they are still my 190lb springs :)

Before I fitted my compression struts a few days ago i bounced the front of the car on each side and was surprised to find my 15month old gaz dampers compressed at totally different forces, with a bit of adjustment and fitting the compression struts the car is transformed, feels better in reverse as well. Think if you lower a car with capri suspension you need to sort the arb height as well (I can't decide if to refit mine on drop links or add about 20lbs of extra spring).

yehhh mine are slightly "off" the drivers one is a bit softer than the passengers, ill ajust it one day lol.

what do i need to do with the ARB?????

yes it has an anti dive kit fitted, and it has had it fitted for the past 12months, aswel as the 190lb springs, and the last 3 month gaz coilovers.

terribly annoying as its only really started in the last month or so!

yeh 195/50r15's with 6j ET 15 (with the width of a disk and a 5mm spacer) makes them ~ exactly the same offset as the 13" lazer allys, and iirc the diameter aint far out nither.

i can get full lock left and right, and it doesnt touch the arch nor the bulkhead  fookin thing.

when i had 205/50r16's on i never had these symptoms though?????

although they were on 32mm spacers... lol

Sweet I though the not being able to get full lock thing was more serious - Now I'm quite chuffed - I'm gonna hammer the fook out of the car tomorrow.

the problem you get with fitting Anti-Dive kits is they dont fit the other parts that go with it, the short legged anti-roll bar should be used, then you have the different chassis mount brackets too.

Fitting an Anti-Dive to a stnadard roll bar and mounts isnt right. it will lead to less castor and the car being unstable .

Its like fitting DCOE's to a standard engine, results in less power (torque) and more fuel being wasted. But if fitted with the right head and cam... well you now have a stonking engine.

As you say, this has only been happening for a month, no new parts fitted etc.. so therefore its a loose or worn part. A worn wheel bearing can cause a momemtary brake grab. A master cylinder that not fully realeasing can cause the brakes to sieze , the resulting grab causeing the leg to flex and knocking the pads back again to free the wheel again.. then its locks again.. and causing the errant steering.

Then of cause we have 'Bumpsteer' .... using a lowered rack mount x-member without the correct steering arms will result in this, as will some of the strange WCXM out there, with re-positioned TCA pick-ups.

I would be checking everything that can wear or break. Un-do a refit every part, checking and re-placing anything thats suspect.

if i remember right you have just fitted 2 1/4 coil overs on the front end and you might find you castor is out and causing bump steer

nope, std legs with 190lb springs and gaz shockies :) i have no need for coilovers really, not using 8" rims up front or in need of height ajustment, the balance is just right as it is...

ah well, if anything is loose MOT man will find it, its in for its MOT today =) fingers crossed eh =)
