sierra1off Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Found out the weekend that Tax Exempt cars can cross the bridge / tunnell free. Just tell the man collecting the money, your car is tax exempt, he makes a note of your reg, checks the tax disc and waves you through Obviously you have to be in a pre 73 or whatever it is car
BIGKEV Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I went across the toll bridge yesterday and I never knew that it went up to £1.50 - Robbing Bastards
V8ian Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Now that makes the M25 speed run more interesting, argueing with the fella that you car is tax exempt. Not that I have ever contemplated doing such a thing!!!!
bortaf Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 My Mk5 gets through free as well, it's disabled tax Mind you that's free as well, makes up for the extra fuel i used carrying the wheelchair in the boot
Noodles Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Thats just another kick in the the round ones for me I live so close to the crossing but dont get free tolls
lotusless Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 its been like that for donkeys years, we did it in a convoy of 6 consul capri's one time. but it takes so long with them getting out of their little box + checking everything + really pisses off the massive queue that builds up behind you
FredTransit Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 My Mk5 gets through free as well, it's disabled tax Mind you that's free as well, makes up for the extra fuel i used carrying the wheelchair in the boot Looks like it's all exemptions then.
Noodles Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Dont say its been free for ages I bet a lot of people didint know that
countrybumpkin Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 the big question is, is this the same for all toll roads?
trevb Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I just looked at the M6 toll web site and it says nothing about classic car.
GXLi Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 It would be strange if it only applied to the M25, as the road network is supposedly national, I would think the M6 toll might be different as its privately owned
pauln Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Where did you get your info as i can't find anything about it apart from Disabled car owners who are exempt from road tax being able to cross for free? http://www.dart-tag.co.uk/nossl/index.p ... emptscheme
Trevmk3 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 damn i use the crossing quite a bit at the moment, will have to find out when mine was made and see if it can sneek in to the tax exempt class
CHEVY Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Thanks for that sierra1off,i'am a wheelchair user and i have been paying since i became disabled in 2001,i don't think they have any signs up to say that tax exempt cars are free?
bortaf Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Thats just another kick in the hairy spheres for me I live so close to the crossing but dont get free tolls If you live local you get free crossing (20 i think?) the reduced cost crossing with a Dart card
BIGKEV Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 I think a petition is due from us to say to those bastards running the country that Signs should be up and refunds should be made to those who over pay!!
RUSTYPUP Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Arse!! I didn't know that. And they make me pay the van rate when I take my truck through. I might just go up there now to exercise my newly discovered freedom!!
bortaf Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 I think a petition is due from us to say to those bastards running the country that Signs should be up and refunds should be made to those who over pay!! would be a waist of time mate the crossing is privately run by a french company for some strange reason on the bright side offer em some cheese and will probablyy surrender and and let you in free
RUSTYPUP Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Went to Basildon to see my nan yesterday. 2 free crossings. What a pleasure!! Thanks Sierra1off. BUT..... I Emailed them to check before I went (just to see what they said), and got this reply today.......... Unfortunately free passage is only available to drivers of vehicles that are exempted from Road Fund Tax on the grounds of their disability. Application for such an exemption is granted by the DVLA if the applicant receives the higher rate of Living Allowance.
lhd1600e Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 i went over the dartford bridge today in the lhd1600e while i was paying my £1.50 i asked the question .. is my car exempt from toll fees .she ask the boss on the radio and he said NO only disabled drivers .. bummer eh
