john_3.0s Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 why is it they only deliver in the day when most honest ppl are at work? why is it they cant tell you when they will deviver to the nearest 6 hours why is it they cnat accept a re-direction from the recipeint so my neighbour can sign for it???? AHHHHHHH!!!!! I can see myself driving to crawley to collect the parcel myself (60odd mile round trip). What a joke as its about as far to crawley as it is from the bl00dy sender!!!!!! sorry rant over
bomber1 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 as an ex courier dont get me going on people not knowing knowing what there getting deliverd
john_3.0s Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 I know exactly what i am expecting to have delivered but as i see it they work for a service industry who should make best efforts to serve their customers, which to me means being able to deliver at times when ppl are likely to be in (i.e. evenings / early mornings etc) and being able to advise roughly when they will be delivering (i.e +/- 2hrs) but its obviously too much to ask. They now tried to charge me 16 quid to have it re-directed to my neighbour!! what a fooking joke!
james1700 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 just had dhl mess me about, i bought a pair of wheels on ebay and sorted a day when the seller was in arranged the courior and they never showed!!!! so pissed off its untrue
livewire7116 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I used APC overnight couriers, dropped off parcel to thier depot about 4,30pm thursday night in Plymouth, they attempted to deliver to guy next day about 10am in East Lothian!!!!. They left a card and i been getting stroppy emails from guy asking if it was sent by horse and cart, spoke to courier and he told me guy has a blue door and now he has to arrange re delivery or collection. Question is who do you blame??? recipient i think, not bad for courier one end of country to the other in just under 16hrs
FredTransit Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 why is it they only deliver in the day when most honest ppl are at work? - cos they are working too why is it they cant tell you when they will deviver to the nearest 6 hours - heard of a thing called traffic? why is it they cnat accept a re-direction from the recipeint so my neighbour can sign for it???? - I wouldn't trust my next door nieghbour with an empty box, and have turned dowm deliveries for them too Two sides to every story mate.
omj624p Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Couriers piss me right off too! But I think (and I may be wrong) that couriers mostly deliver to businesses that work normal business hours. Us 'common people' are probably a pain in the arse for them.
john_3.0s Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 why is it they only deliver in the day when most honest ppl are at work? - cos they are working tooTwo sides to every story mate. agreed but tesco/asda seem to manage to work after 6pm...and surely the roads are quieter anyway so it would make their lives easier.
tim Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 ive never had a problem with sticking a sign on the door with another local address for re deliverly

Yes they do, but they are not delivering other people's goods for profit, so can pay their drivers a shift, as opposed to per drop, which is how couriers are paid.
antz Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 ive never had a problem with sticking a sign on the door with another local address for re deliverly my mum works close to our house so when i have a parcel expected i whack a note in the door saying IF NO ANSWER RING 0********** and if they ring she will pop home and sign for it. the parcel force guy is a regular to my hosue so if im not home he comes back later
Burns Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 i work at dhl in the claims department and come across these problems every day. i'll try and say some reasons from the company's point of view of what happens; why is it they only deliver in the day when most honest ppl are at work? - Because 90% of the deliveries are collecting or picking up from businesses why is it they cant tell you when they will deviver to the nearest 6 hours - because the drivers are in certain areas at certain times. local areas may have a certain cut-off. within these areas the drivers organise themselves and it would be a MASSIVE job to give everyone exact times for each delivery and people would complain if the drivers got stuck in traffic/broke down etc. why is it they cnat accept a re-direction from the recipeint so my neighbour can sign for it???? - because you are not the contract holder. the person who paid for the delivery (usually sender) are the contract holder and all alterations must go through them due to the data protection act. with dhl if you leave a note in your windon authorising delivery to a neighbour and sign it then the driver will deliver to that address tesco/asda seem to manage to work after 6pm...and surely the roads are quieter anyway so it would make their lives easier. - i can't say about other couriers but dhl do have what's called 'home delivery couriers' who work with their own cars and can work their hours to suit, they can deliver up to 9:30 at night. i imagine the smaller couriers wouldn't have this. they only do this in areas that are considered to be very heavily resedential rather than having industrial units around. i'm not sticking up for what happens with any courier (including dhl) because i see when everything goes wrong every day at work, but i'm more than happy to explain how the system works if you have any questions ps. dhl actually make a loss on the domestic side of the business, always has. it's only international shipments that actually make any money. that's why they've just pulled out of the usa domestic market. this may be one of the reasons that the management are not willing to go too far out of their way to go above and beyond pps. pm me your parcel/consignment number and i'll see if there's anything i can do about your parcel, i really can't promise anything but i'll have a look
over_head_cam Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 The moral of the story is: Choose a delivery addy where it can be delivered anytime (workplace if yours is static)
