to be honest

whatever car you can get with a good base chassis...........

engine+suspension+wheels+tyres etc will have a 99% chance of being changed or upgraded to make them better.....

depending on what the idea of the project is...

if its a track slag, you'd want the better chassied escort, (the stiffer one, i forget) or something with a good starting engine (like a mildly tuned pinto etc)

but if you're looking for concourse theres a whole new barrel of fish....

also if you're looking to do a retroglam... you want a good runner, so thats one thing less to worry about........

thanks for all your comments and idea. I am going to look at a mk1 cortina at the weekend. It was originally ermine white 1500 four door 1964. It has suffered from a bad dark green paint job, it has a set of minilites on it. Depending on the shell, as to whether i buy it or not. If i do buy it the plans are white roof, the early lemon colour, as the missus is gonna drive it. Lotus steels, on the floor either a racy crossflow or a pinto.

sounds nice. Currently trying to get my Mk1 back on the road after years of neglect, Car is metallic magenta but will be going black cherry, running on lotus steels with a hybrid pre-crossflow (711m bottom endm, bda pistons and pre x-flow cylinder head). It should be roadworthy in the next couple of weeks.

Let us know how you get on at the weekend.
