mr.mk1 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Hey all, Just thought id share with you all what ive got my money assigned to. These topics have been pasted from another forum. Finally, have some pictures of my new old ride. Its an english assembled version which i believe means floor shift and no bench seat. It was brought over into Dunedin in 14th september 1967 with 21244 Miles on clock, and has only lived in Dunedin, Wanaka and Roxburgh since. I picked it up for a song from an old family freind it turned out, who has had it since '84 as his A-frame car behind his work truck. It came with a good wee bevvy of spares, including the proper English estate heater, new bits in ford bags and general random shit. It has a sweet 1600 x-flow and has been converted to alternator from generator. Plans are to get it legal, lower it good and proper over my 7 inch steelies and fix the minimal rust in it, secure my beaded seat cover, and rock it as it stands in the pictures, as theres nothing like original paint and signage! If i can, ill find a visor and roof racks haha. ^ Delivery in dads truck ^ British pimp mirror ^interior not too bad, steering wheel centre is broken but all there. ^ Back seat is MINT! cool pattern too. ^ Have a set of tail lights lined up, should arrive this week. ^ "Step 1: lift lower portion of seat and flip forward" ^ "Step 2: Lower rear portion into bottom portion, as shown" ^ Heater, which you will notice has a facia panel that will sit under the dash. ^ Cooke Howlison- the friendly motor firm ^ reads TEVIOT CONTRACTING specialists in TREE TOPPING and TRIMMING NORMAN MARSH phone 48.066 ROXBURGH ---------------- Got it running yesterday, no real effort, timing was 180 out, runs like a hunny. Also fixed left front guard and door needed 3 rust patches. Put new tail lights on and changed fuel filler back to standard, have half re-made inside cardboard panels in 3mm coversheet. --------------- fixed rust and damage in LH rear quarter, renewed hoses to and from washers, repaired front parcel tray, fixed heater, finished all interior panels, aligned doors to suit trim-line, swapped wipers to original chrome spares, replaced whole inner bonnet slam panel, added grille AA badge. Getting closer ------------------ Covered all interior panels in old regional newspapers, cut and welded a new sill into the LH side, finished off LR 1/4 with a nice spread of poos, ordered touch up paint, etc. ------------------- Movie films ----------------- I took it down to the annual Cool Rides show in alexandra this weekend, got heaps of attention and kids saying 'it looks like the harry potter car'. Yeah biatch, it flys. even on 3 cylinders! There was also a cruise to Arrowtown on the saturday, ended up breaking off after and going through to Queenstown and over the pass home. I was in the [bNR 34] GTR M-spec on the way up, and the [1WILD1] R32 GTR on the way home, sexy time! Both owned by the same dude. ------------------ Im back down in Alexandra house sitting so ive got way too much time to work on it. Today i put my extractors on, fixed the exhaust, made an alternator bracket and put it on, put beaded seat cover in, changed the leads to some spares i had, and pulled out the number plate lightbulb for replacement. Then spent a while taking petrol out of my brothers toyota by undoing the fuel line and pumpin it through on the key lol. Messy King job. I tried siphoning it and it wouldnt have a bar of it. Thats what ya get for being nice and putting fuel in his car, and then it King out completely. ----------------- Tonight i wired up and mounted my smiths rev counter, Put in new Number plate lightbulb, drained oil out of diff and replaced, drained engine, my oil filters differ so ill check that out. Check that whack steel cover out! Extractors Should i leave it.. Or paint it.. ---------------- Heres my steels my dad originally got widened for his old Mk1, Only two pictured, the other two are at home. Ive 2 Eager-shod ones and two plains. Ill paint them lite, lite green. Comparison with a Bic. Today i did the gearbox oil, rolled the rear guards and moved the window washer bottle closer the firewall, as i was worried the heat off the extractors would melt it, and its too mint to sacrifice. Eagers are too big, sold them ---------------- Were off home to CHCH! Hopefully it goes to plan. ---------------- Ive painted the grille, swapped bonnets and painted it satty b. Pic does not do it justice but oh well. ---------------- OK, so it, and all my SHIT have come back down south for good, fook christchurch! Ive thrown some 2" blocks in the back and the front has cutties for now, while i figure out wether to rebuild my discs or cheap out and rebuild my drums. I fooked off the rev counter too, it just wasnt right for the look. I picked up a set of period stainless headlight eyebrows but they arent fitted, as all my spare headlights have the three wee glass nodlues and the 'lids need to sit flush..die grind time! I put my Escort un-safety belts in, had some Cressida ones but on absolute full extension, they were a foot away from clicking in. Ah well, they were free. ----------------- Heres a couple of shots when it had no coils in the front, was King sick, but wouldnt drive ---------------- As i probably mentioned up there ^ somewhere, I bought a set of front disc struts off trademe, and when they arrived it became evident they needed overhauled. Well im a dumb shit. I had forgotten completely about the set i already had, i got them with my old caged mk1 sedan! They were minter, and despite being on home made adjusties, would work. So i peeled the hubs off the struts, bolted to the trademe ones, and found a set of type 16 Capri calipers in the garage. Everything fit, and they are in place. Had to weld up the strut top holes and re-drill, as the new ones have a wider spread pattern. And now the wheels sit on whack angles, so ive got to lengthen the radius arms a bit to get them aligned. Put some new Noltec inner control arm bushes in too. ----------------- Its sorta stagnant at the moment, i need to cert it and that cant really happen until next year, as that would suit my certifier better. I treated it to a new coil and plugs the other night, and added another earth strap, as the electrics just werent up to game and kept failing/fooked my plugs when combined with shit tune and timing. Now it runs a dream again. I put the wide wheels on it, and the new disc struts kicked me in the box, as they now sit the wheels out of the guards an inch and catch the front of the guards on half lock, im not Mad Max so im not running it like that. Will run wides on the back and standards on the front. Nabbed some paints from work..a Gold metallic silver and mid graphite grey..once mixed together will provide a nice colour and then ill puff some on the wheels. I painted a wide wheel body colour but wasnt hardened by it, so if it looks stink with charcoal wheels, ill King take them off and roll around on rusty hubs, bish. Picture makes it look better than in person. I also found a way to bring up the sign-writing better, as it still has the crusty adhesive present, i lightly rubbed a rag that i had previously polished alloy with, and the black autosol-alloy shit worked its way into the adhesive only, not the paint, now its really quite readable, and im a happier man for it. Ill get a visual when im good and ready. Im also making some headlight visors, as they are a bit cooler than the half covers. Ive seen them on a few Minors and Minis etc, they can look quite shit hot. Im pretty sure they arent entirely legal, but Ill put it past my cert man also. ----------------- ---------------- I Pulled the springs out so i can measure them and get some lowered springs for it. Dont want to run cutties yet as its going to go through cert soon. Other than that, painted the front rims (I think i need to add more silver, look too dark), white walled a shitty old tire to see how it looks, as i cant run hubcaps in the wides yet, i need to get them spun up on a lathe and the tabs welded on otherwise it will throw it all out of balance and the hubcap might not be centre, ie. clown car style. Also tightened the brown seat covers up and wired them to the seats, as the elastic is toast and they keep coming off when i get in and out of the seat. Tightened the Beaded seat cover too.
mr.mk1 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Well well well. Its got a Registration, Warrant and a Certification. Too sweet. I love how it smells like burning things, temp gauge is in the red, had to cable-tie blocks of wood to the diff to get people in it due to guard rub, it wanders around the road, and is deafening inside. Is so me. Has Bullet caps now too.
mr.mk1 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 And the Escort. 2005: Hey all, Just thought id share with you all what ive got my money assigned to. It was only really last weekend I got a chance to work on it and in that weekend I got the bitch stripped out and half of it Bare-metalled. On closer inspection the front left Guard is pretty fooked, Past repairs and the like, but unless a good one turns up that I can stitch straight on, ill just repair it. The paint scheme has changed yet again but ill keep this under my hat for now, as it will be the only Escort youve seen sporting it and id cry if someone sprayed it before me Am back down in Otago for x-mas, but am going home early to get as much done as possible before starting work again on the 4th. Ive rebuild the tail and headlights, autosoled the shit out of the chromework, had a bunch of shit Zinc plated, yada yada, Progress is solid. ---------- Back on the interweb! Heres an older set of pix of car in etch and grey guide. ---------------- Ok, Heres some pictures, the latest: _Floor stripped of all underseal and sealer_ _My new steering wheel _ _Front on with my special edition footstool_ _Polishing sand blasted lock_ _As-new sandblasted and Zinced locks_ _Side with rear and rear quater blocked_ --------------- Heres some other cars ive played with or am playing with currently. Sorta swap +cash sold the black Hearse for this 1300 4spd, standard as beater of a beast: Took shot 1300 out and put my mk1 esky motor and box in, got warrant, tinted. Then I finally found the right mesh and painted it, cutties up front and 3" blocks in the bum, swapped noisy box, flatmate blew it, got another mintas box, alternator fell out twice. got 6 of us to a party out in the country n back but made rank noises as tunnel met driveshaft and handbrake cable met driveshaft & diff. Cops loved it Mum didnt Painted rohstyleez black and shortly after sold it to the flatmate for cash and the rest of the Laurel we bought together.. ---------------- Been in the shed heaps lately, Finally! Fixed crushed jacking points, tacked on trial fit front flares, chipped underseal off rear of car, cut off front and got new one fitting-$400 for front panel and lower front support thing thanks Palmside, took everything out of engine-bay and sat engine in bay and masturbated, and did alot of thinking about it. I want it running before late november so I can do skids at my 21st. ----------------- ----------- Also its ready for the roll-over jig, ive made the front mounting, just need some steel from a mate for the back and ill throw it together. --------------- mmm, as new restored grille. It would want to be mint for $316 and being away since december 2005! It was put in the reverse dyes, tapped up where needed, polished and re-annodised, and polished again. -------------- Ok, so dad and I threw together a rottisserie last Saturday, with relative easy actually, and now the Escort spins 360 as happy as a pig in mud. So I got into it and chipped off all remaining traces of underseal with a blade screwdriver, and thinners-wiped it all down, which took the layer of basecoat off, leaving a groovy Brown etch, kinda handy I guess. I left the underseal on the boot floor as ill be putting a "drop tank" in there, and the tunnel needs enlarged so its still there too. Otherwise NAKED BRIT LIVE NUDES XXX. Now I gotta buzz round and wire wheel the seams so the welds take mint, tap out a few wee dents in the floor and weld a few pinholes i discovered. Mite make up some Gussets and shit too. Talk about stoked, Ted. ----------------- Sigh. Underside seam welding is done. What a laborious job. There are still the front inner guards, seat runners and engine bay to do,take about an hour, but ill need to wait until the drive-train goes in for a mock-up and see what needs moved, removed and fabricated before i finish seaming. They arent ticket-exam welds, but they look pretty good, and hold on like a fat chick with a memphis meltdown. UPDATE EDIT::: Both front guards and doors are off. Looks like bugger all of a project left to go now! ----------------- I have to progress on it to report on it! Ive bought a CA20ET S12 off mike, so i need to go and pick that up. It will (hopefully) donate its brake system, cross-member and struts, IRS, etc etc. It will be a headache making the car accommodate the Independent's cradle and shit, but i think it will be worthwhile in the end. I'm probably not the first to do it, but i sure cant find any information of such an undertaking.. Lucky my brother is an engineer and drinks speights haha. ---------------- Today i was alerted to, and purchased some goodies. -Near new Pistons -Grant race Rings -Shot-peened Rods -Honed Block from above hardware -Oil Squirters -Crank Girdle -Another Sump -Another oil pickup All very well priced. Thanks Dan! ------------------- Also got a reconditioned head with 3 angle valve grind and stem seals, factory turbo manifold, spare pulley, cams, front cover, Machined and .25 undersized crank (i cant use) etc etc. Real happy, cant wait to get into it.
marky4 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 blimey you been busy , nice selection of motors there love the cortina lowered on those steels, looks the nuts
mr.mk1 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 To tell the truth, i've had the Escort for over 4 years, and the Cortina for 15 months, so could have been more progress, but money isnt very bloody affluent!
Admin Vista Posted March 13, 2009 Admin Report Posted March 13, 2009 Quite a bit of work gone on there. I came through christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown in January 2008. There seemed to be lots of old fords still in regular use. You ever been up to the British car museum in Te Awanga? Worth a look if you're ever up in Hawkes bay http://www.britishcarmuseum.co.nz/

Lotus-Eater Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Love your Mk1 estate mate, but then I would..... check mine out, quite a few similarities!! Same interior, same colour, towbars. Lowered, fat steels, Even the number plates share quite a few characters!! But Ive "woodied" mine now so looks a bit different - not that there was much chance of our two estates bumping into each other!!
mr.mk1 Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 Thatnks for sharing mate, thats a very nice Estate you hold the keys to. Bloody crazy number plate similarities! What have you done with the front suspension to get her so slammed? I always wanted to do blue dots in the tail lights! Their choice!
mr.mk1 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 My new XSport Manifold, really stoked with it, just needs sent off for HPC. Just got new copper manifold stud nuts and gold Zinc washers for it too. And the Cortina, admittedly..parked on a rock.
