I have seen a couple on here but wondering who has a Escort camper van in particular the Nimbus conversion ?

i have an old website running, set it up many years ago when i had a couple of camper vans and have tonight been offered a Mk1 Nimbus just the same as my old one which is too god an offer to turn down

Having been parked for some time it's in need of work but worth the trip to Derbyshire to collect ................ i hope.

Would like to see some pics of yours to give me some inspiration and remind me of how they look, it's the pop up roof type

Kieran & his mum & dad (Oddball & KJ1320) have a Mk1 Nimbus too

Indeed we do

Bought originally as a towing vehicle for the escort but its not big enough inside to carry all the stuff that we have to take racing

But I got to attached to part with it

Here are a few pics

I can show you this photo of my Grandmothers camper when it was nearly new. I used to holiday in France in this with her in the early 70's.

Different roof to the above shot so I guess that means it's a different kind of camper?

From what we have been told apparently the camper vans were made as shells,

then sent out to independent companies to be made into campers, hence why the inside and roof fittings are different.

Interesting, I think she bought it nearly new. It was written off when a biker hit her in about 1978.

Didn't you win one on eBay a while ago? Belonged to a guy I used to work with, Jody?

I bid on that one then got outbid by a fair amount and did not want to go higher, so i looked elsewhere, then the other guy who had outbid me retracted at the last minute leaving me the winner.

I spoke to Jody he knew what had happened, the guy had been the winning bid for quite a few days. Jody had other people willing to buy so we agreed for him to sell to someone else as i'd committed with a deposit on my Estate, although i offered to pay his charges or lose my deposit on the other car as i felt bad, he was happy because he ended up getting a better price.

My new one has been off the road for 4 years, the previous man has owned it for 15 years or so,was taxed and Mot'd when parked and had approx£2500 spent on bodywork shortly before, has a couple bangs and scrapes from being stored but was very reasonably priced and an offer i couldn't refuse

I'll be picking it up on Friday from Derbyshire, if i can push it onto the trailer or get it running and hoping to have usable again very soon unless it's worse then i'm led to belive.

If it's that bad, I would revert it back to a van, got to be worth saving we did this with a Mk1 transit, replaced the roof, it worked well. Come to think of it, if you don't I would be interested (as a van project)

I have owned 2 of these before (sold the last one a Mk2 about 8 years ago) and want to keep it as a Camper ............. hopefully my Missus will use it to attend shows with me, she didn't like the Mk4 Convertable i bought for her, i already have my Mk1 Van and she feels left out.

These are the only pics i have so far received today, but i think it seems ok ?

Most people who I've known who've bought a van to use for weekends away say the first thing they'll do is put a mattress in the back (passion wagon?) so converting a camper back into a van is a retrograde move....and you can make a cup of tea and a bacon butty in a camper with ease.
