Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 whats your opinions/comments on it ive got a very strange friend who is paranoid about catching it and seems to think the world is gonna end does anyone on here know any one that has got swine flu?
Admin Vista Posted May 1, 2009 Admin Report Posted May 1, 2009 Tell him to stick some oinkment on it and he'll be fine On a more serious note, people are telling jokes about it but the WHO wouldn't raise the world threat level to such a high level unless they had grave concerns about it. I'm worried because Flu of any kind is a well established killer of those with deficient immune systems i.e. the elderly, the young and the sick. It's also usually highly contagious and easily transmitted. Well we have a 6 month old baby and I shall be avoiding any public gatherings with him for a while to see how this develops.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 yes i agree about the elderly and young i have a 3 year old boy and 6 year old girl but hopefully they will have built up good emune systems by now they both go to school so are with the general public reguarly
SmokeEm Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 As Scott say's, its the young and especially the elderly that will suffer most. This country just doesn't do enough for them despite the input they have put in during their lives but that's another story
Noodles Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 **I stole this** Hopefully I wont get con-ham-inated
FredTransit Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Am I the only one who thinks this has been blown out of proportion? Even in the US, which has had deaths, it's not even .0000001 % of the population!

Burns Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 it's quite a long story about pandemics but yes it is something to be concerned about but not too much as of yet i would have thought
FredTransit Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 At the end of the day, if this was all I had to worry about my life would be fine. There is nothing much I can do about swine flu. even the accepted anti viral treatments are no good against it. So either I sit in a cupboard and don't go out for 6 months till it's gone, or I get on with my life. I can't help thinking (and this is not a conspiracy theory) that this has come at a good time for the governments of the USA and UK, it's taken the headlines off the recession.....
richie_stix Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 http://allsp.com/l.php?id=e103 i hope this link works, if not go to www.allsp.com and look in series 7 for an episode called 'red mans greed'... sums it up for me! essentially, i think it is an over reaction. Look at who had died, they are either geographicly or physically more likely to suffer badly? I bet the most people who get it will just get the same as a normal flu, then be fine! but if i get some days off work for it in the lovely sunshie then
jimbo Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 I was a bit worried about all this, so I rang up teh Swine Flue Hotline...... All I could hear was crackling.
Dr Feelgood Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 im not worried about it too much, after all the two ppl who got it in scotland have been cured and released already, the death in america was a mexican child so not even an american, i think ppl are panicking a bit too much but its understandable for parents with young kids or the elderly
richie_stix Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 but a pig flu... surely thats as likey as hell frezzing over!
Trevmk3 Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 sod the swine flu, whats happened to the bird flu that was going to kill everything could be a bad thing but its one of those things of we will have to see, and as Amna said the child that died in america had just come over the border to seek medical attention for it (i think)

Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 i heard on the news its pig bird and human flu all mixed together
Admin Vista Posted May 1, 2009 Admin Report Posted May 1, 2009 swine flu is a mutation of bird flu i think... it might have something to do with pigs being very close to us anatomically (in organs) I've been all too close to a few pigs in my time. The brewers of Stella Artois have a lot to answer for
Stu_B Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 It's a variation of H1N1 flu (standard flu that we all have basic immunisation to) Bird flu is H5N1
