Ok we now have well over a thousand cases of swine flu in the UK (though thankfully there doesn't seem to be much heading down our way) and our first swine flu death, though she did have other health problems too.

I still think this could end up being more serious than people think, especially if the virus mutates any further

Like I said, if swine flu was all I had to worry about, I would have a very easy life. So now we have a thousand cases, and a tragic death. How many billions of people are they in the UK? That's hardy an epidemic, let alone a pandemic.

Billions? There's not even 1 billion people in the UK. A billion is 1000 million whereas current UK population is estimated at around 61 million. Of those 1250 people infected, they will probably have had contact with maybe 100 people (or more, possibly many more) before realising they were infected so now we have 125000 possible carriers. The numbers can multiply very quickly.

OK millions, and how long ago was it that swine flu came to light? I am just trying to say it's not been the end-of-civilisation-as-we-know-it type plague it was originally billed as weeks ago. If I have to come into contact with it, I would rather it be now, in June, in the good weather, than in the damp in November.

Regular flu variants kill 12000 in the UK each year, so swine flu has some way to go just yet....

 

In its current form, it is only likely to have severe (fatal) effects on those with other predispositions. e.g. the elderly, pregnant ladies, those with existing bronchial/immune system problems, etc.

I'm keeping out of the way as I always do when a flu outburst is doing the rounds, I've got Addisons disease which means basically my body doesn't produce the hormones cortisol or aldosterone, so when I feel ill or stressed and my body should produce adrenaline it soesn't leaving me to guess how to adjust my meds to suit, always a fun game to play

 

I can get a flu jab due to the condition but sometimes that gives you a cold which could be serious on its best to just hide out the way a bit
