davreeve Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Why is it that when i,m in my work van vehicles behind tend to stay at a sensible distance. However when i drive my fiesta the cars following tend to be almost glued to the rear tailgate as if its some kind of big electro magnet. Can anyone explain this strange phenomenom(spelling?) ?.
omj624p Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I have the same issue with my mk2's. And I hate to be tailgated! Grr! My G/F didn't believe me for ages, she said I imagined it. But when she started driving it she had to agree. Funny aint it.
emu Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Just keep slowing down. I had a vectra down to walking pace yesterday before he took the hint.
davreeve Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 Just keep slowing down. I had a vectra down to walking pace yesterday before he took the hint Thought about that but i,m running low on rear bumpers I just keep to the speed limit and try to ignore them.
Copey Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Just keep slowing down. I had a vectra down to walking pace yesterday before he took the hint. i have done that in the past, then booted it and made them look silly
flyingbanana Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 what i tend to do is just touch the brake pedal so the lights come on but dont apply pressure but still have the thottle open
davreeve Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 What i was interested in though is why people ride on your rear bumper in the first place.I mean what do they get out of it?
Copey Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 its to try to intimidate you in to driving faster i think
2.8i Cossie Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 i think they see the old car and get close cos 'i used to have one like that' so the family in the car all look out at it and go 'oooo aaaa' either that or they think its an old car its gonna hold me up as my new electric motor that drives itself and the company maintains deserves to have free run of the road....until you sink the boot in it and they end up a dot in the vibrating rear view mirror
bortaf Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Do you have a US spec rear veiw mirror ? " objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are "
davreeve Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 either that or they think its an old car its gonna hold me up as my new electric motor that drives itself and the company maintains deserves to have free run of the road....until you sink the boot in it and they end up a dot in the vibrating rear view mirror I think you may be on to something there

So why should you be allowed to still be driving one...you must be a second class citizen
davreeve Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 dont forget....they owned one and it was scrapped as they had owned it for 3 years and its compulsary to change it after that..... So why should you be allowed to still be driving one...you must be a second class citizen I have to agree with that as its not just kids in saxo,s and corsa,s that do it .Its often middle aged blokes that are trying to drive up your exhaust pipe. I could also understand it if i was doing 20 mph in a 40 zone etc but although i keep to the speed limit i usually drive at the limit where possible and not under it. I like being a second class citizen if i get to drive old fords
2.8i Cossie Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 i prefer my cappa to my company passat anyday!! but yea ive noticed it seems to be the BM's and the Audis and VW that sit on your pipes and get a good look. Boy racers dont know what to make of it as it isnt made of plastic and the big exhaust is actually there to let the engine run properly and not just sound like a WRC
Mr Sam Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 i love the fact in an old car you can tottle along preteding its all its got....then open it wide ~BRAAAAAAP~
V8ian Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 My missus found a way to deter tailgaters, and its so simple, and works every time, She uses the rear screen wash, seems people hate getting their screens wet from another car

Deano1351 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 When i get tailgated i pull over, let them past then tailgate them, guess what, they hate it too
