No-one seems to understand and all i hear is 'something will turn up'. Even my boss rang round everyone in the trade asking them to consider me if a job comes up and he gave me the day off yesterday to look for another job but theres f00k all, its not just about been unemployed, its having something to get you out of bed early, and things like i cant do with been at home everyday, ive got stuff to do in the house and yard but that aint gonna earn me money, im 48 now and since i left school at 16 ive only ever been out of works for 2 weeks. honestly i feel so shite

Savvi Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I do feel for you, i would be the same and proberly would be in tears by now !! People don't know what else to say to you, we have all seen what your capable of, what with your car, bikes and all the other post's you have shared with us showing off "your skills" which makes us feel worse to know you have lost your job !!! I would seriously look into investing your redundcy into setting yourself up doing something with your hands, if you don't make a living from that i'd be very surprised.
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 A couple of places i fish are full of people fishing full week sessions at the moment, they too took redundancy earlier this year... take up carp fishing mate, thet will give you plenty to think about.

Although i feel for you losing your job you still live at home and don't have the sort of outlays that Tony will have so if you treble or treble again how you feel that's more like Tony feels right now

Dr Feelgood Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 feel for you tony, its not your fault but you still feel like shit, hard as it is try not to give in to depression
2.8i Cossie Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 youre right there savvi, no offence to young gavin but he has no idea of the turmoil this has produced, its not only me its my wife too, shes upset that im upset, il just carry on searchng for something , i cant bring myself to go self employed at mo, theres nothing that will bring me regular work, i owned a small motorcycle repair/restoration workshop a few years ago but i didnt pay really, id love to stay i the caravan trade but at the mo its not possible. i can buy shite to sell on ebay etc but im a manual man, sat on my arse doesnt appeal to me, i need to feel physically tyred at the end of the day and know ive earnt my tea thats sat on the table when i gat home, i need the feeling of security that ive always had. Can you not use the contacts you made in the caravan business to continue to do it yourself? Im sure if you done a good job the people would be more than happy to use you again as they know they can trust you etc. Just an idea!
SmokeEm Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Surely oop your way Tony there must be stacks of Caravan sites? Not just holiday makers use them. I know if I had one, i'd be there every weeekend. Maybe you could be like a Jack of All for them? You know, like general handyman/gardener/decking installer etc. You could print up a few leaflets n distribute them all over the area. Whilst it's starting up, you could do your bike/car ebay things till it picks up? Just a thought.
Retro-gone. Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 believe me lads ive done all i can on that score, ive gotta be carefull whos toes i tread on tho, each and every park, private or public have their own maitainence people and if i want to stay in this trade, which i do, i cant be seen taking work from others, at the end of the day they have mouths to feed too, now i know its every man for himself but honestly ive got more chance of getting a full time job if i dont go treading on toes. I know every single park within a 70 mile radius of here and ive contacted the ones where i know i might have a chance. The big parks, Park resorts etc have their own maintainence teams so its pointless trying to tout work at them, but i have put my name down for employment with them, my boss has been great too (apart from making me redundant) as hes rand round all private parks in the area and recommended me. Where i slipped up is not taking my corghi gas training and test when i had chance, cos caravans will always need gas services, its the law.
Fiesta Steve Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 and he gave me the day off yesterday to look for another job He's not doing you a favour, your entitled to as much time off as you need to look for employment, its the law ! Hope something turns up, I know what it feels like, I've been made redundant twice already and I'm half your age.
Retro-gone. Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 so even tho im working a weeks notice i can take time off to look for work?
Fiesta Steve Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 so even tho im working a weeks notice i can take time off to look for work? Yes, most definately, with full pay too. Have you worked out how much you will get redundancy pay ? Many employers seem to get it wrong and the employee doesn't always know any different and settle for less than they are entitled too.
Fishtailparka Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 It has only been a few days Tony, you are bound to feel crap mate. Nothing wrong with feeling crap for a few days, but whatever you feel like, don't allow yourself to wallow in it too much. It is very easy to sink into a proper depression that can become hard to get out of. Lots of positive attitude is the order of the day. Get yourself up and about, even take a little time out to do the odd few things that you couldn't while at work. Never give up, and keep on looking for work. Not sure if anyone has told you yet, but summat will turn up. Best of luck mate.
Retro-gone. Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 dya know somethin, ive read your post over and over and i honestly do feel better thanks mate.

But. What do you do. What kind of job are you looking for? Maybe someone can help you out mate. Jon

mk1super Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Tony ive been in your shoes laid off with bills to pay etc and its a scary time that leaves you lower than a moles asshole. But you cannot let it grind you down mate, you have to keep fighting on. You have a hell of alot of skills and talent mate and your a jack of all trades people like that get jobs way quicker than them who have one skill to fall back on. Ive seen your work on here and i really think you would make a great success of going self employed doing classic bike Restoration/Paint.
