Johnson Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Well Ian, once again your ultimate wisdom has produced the answer , although I cant agree with you comments on the fwd spoiling evening cruises for obvious reasons As for me being introduced to the scene, two of my older brothers mates were well into the old fords, one had a 1600 anglia and the other a 2 ltr capri. They invited me to the slough cruise and told me to buy classic ford mag. and that was it I was hooked.
Admin Vista Posted December 18, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 18, 2006 What's all this cruise stuff? call me old fashioned but I still think cruises are taken on ships
Mr.Sumo Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 personnally i blame my Mum From my earliest recollections she had Fords...the 1st one i remember was a D reg dark blue Anglia , then came a 2000E Corsair ( KGT 67 E ) , then a MK3 Cortina ( KGT 404 N ) ...both came from the same garage thats why i think they have the same pre-fix.....after that she got delutions of granduer and started buying " modern " cars...i recall an Imp and a Sunbeam Alpine....but my Dad always chose the Ford as an option on his company cars when i was growing up as well , i remember Cortinas , mk3 - mk5"s , then when the Sierra arrived he had one of them ( A 107 CPJ ) and his last ever company cars was an Orion 1.6 Ghia .... So , when i past my test , the MK3 was my 1st proper car , after that its been Fords all the way , MK1 / MK2 Escorts , Cortinas , MK1 / MK2 Granada .....except for a couple of Fiat Twin Cams and one Lancia 2000HPE and that dreaded ROVER , and to be honest i bought that cos i thought it was about time i " grew " up and had a sensible car.....NEVER AGAIN See , the thing is , Old Skool Fords is kinda like Charlie......fookin addictive and very hard to give up long live the OSF

Sorry Johnson....but i would have thought a Slough cruise would have been full of Nissans / Datsuns and the odd Honda
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 Sorry Johnson....but i would have thought a Slough cruise would have been full of Nissans / Datsuns and the odd Honda How do you know Iain???? Did you take your Hond...... erm..... sorry, ROVER along to that one??????? V8Ian, thank you for your answer mate. My dad has kept some of his old Custom Car mags from years ago. I keep saying I will have a look through them, but never seem to have the time. What do you all think it would be like now, without our beloved OldSkoolFord.co.uk???????? Don't forget that "Da Managment" & some members here at Old Skool Ford are responsible for organising some great meets. I know for certain the highlight of my year before Old Skool Ford was The Bromley Pageant of Motoring and the odd Mini meet. (My mate has a Mini) Cheers once again for your answers folks

Morley Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 I originally bought my Mk1 Escort to take the piss out of all the plonkers that met up at halfords with their neoned up Sierra's, Saxo's and the like. My plan was to take this baggy old mk1 down the car park with a portable stereo in the back for some choons. I was going to put a huge mirror under the bonnet and open her up and stand there looking at it. When the chavvy lot came over to look at my power house they would see me looking at myself in the mirror well i thought it was funny. Anyways, i soon gave up on that idea and decided to restore it purely for a bit of fun at weekends. Something different and fun to drive. Then i started bleeding money at the thing and it turned out a bit nicer than i expected. Then i heard about a meet up at the Grasshopper in Westerham, then i found Turbosport, then met Darren, then went to a show or two, did some track days, then the rest as they say, is history.
over_head_cam Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 When I first got into cars you could still buy a Mk2 escort new
kms Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Well what a question - but more to the point - what wonderful answers -I feeled humbled to be in the company of such knowledgeable people - It makes the whole old skool ford scene seem even more inviting and important. I got into Old skool fords about 10 years ago - but it was because my b/f had them - I fell into the short oval world - osf sem to naturally fall out of that! But considering that we have always had an osf in those 10 years - I do think the scene has definately picked up in the last 3 or 4 years -I personally put it down to patriotism - Its a mark of being a proper british citizen - own a ford
Slik 50 Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I have always been around OSF's wether it be my dad or step dad! My dad was more ford muscle, He always had mainly MK2 grannys and always 2.8's. He was an industrial roofer/cladder and always saw them as the best car for the money when it came to workhorse's. He could load the thing up to the nines with tools and gear then set of anywhere around the country to work and nine times out of ten if anything did go wrong he normally could fix it at the side of the road! There was also capris and cortinas thrown in all either 2.3's or 2.8's. When hisa last granny blew a gearbox he parked it on the drive and always promised me That: "One day son, me and you will get that back on the road bigger and better than before" But it ended up sitting there that long that it was to far gone to save He then bought an XR4I in white and I f*ckin loved it But the same happend again, and if I was to be perfectly honest a part of me died the day it was taken for banger racing. I still dont think my dad relises how much he hurt my by not following through with his promise! That was one of them moments when you vow(sp) never to do that to your own kids and it has become one of my biggest goals in life to restore an OSF with as much input and help from my kids! My step dad has always had a Love for MK2 escorts. He hade a beutifull red 2dr when I first met5 him about 12 years ago. He had to sell it as he was moving to germany to work. Not antisapating the boom that was to happen with the prices. He has since moved back to the U.K. (bought a house but still travels to germany) and has again vowed(sp) that once the house is finnished (about 12 months time) to own another! So I have always been around OSF's and the passion that people have for them, I have always yerned for a peice of that passion but becoming a father at the age of 20 with one more joining a couple of years after that. I have never had the money, space or time to own one. So never followed the scene that surounded them. Then about 4 years ago I managed to blag a job at a breakers yard . My supervisor drove a beutifull XR4I, It was like no other 4I I had ever seen before and it was his baby. He had no children. he had money, time, tools and knowlege and he loved his car within a few months of knowing the car he had it resrayed lowerd (a bit more) changed the wheels (again) ect. I LOVED THAT CAR! All his mates though drove cosworths and RS500's and thats what he wanted so he had to sell his car to get 1.Ow thats wher I came in I couldnt let tha car go to any one but me! and with all the promises my dad made I just had to have it. "sod the money, Sod me dad. I want that car for me". See, I dont have many hobbys to provide that "sanctury" from the kids, I have no freinds "around the corner" to go and nip for brew with, So the decision was made that the car was going to be mine, it was going to be my "sanctury". I saved every penny I could to buy it and I did it. It was the first thing that I have truly saved for. It was mine, Not my wifes, not the kids and not me dads, IT WAS MINE!!!!!!! Then I wanted to buy some treats for it, I went out to spar and browsed the shelfs. Fast ford, performance ford, redline, max power but nothing with anything refering to the 4I! So there was an article about a 2.8 capri in Classic ford I thought "There simaler" So it was puchased! In there was an advert for OSF. I thought I would check it out! I joined then started posting, Then quikly learnt that the 4I "Aint oldskool" "Sod it" I dont want to hang with FWD Fords so I will try to fit in
antz Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 my dad owned a mk2 cortina crayford when i was about 5years old and then i rememebr seeing old rally pics of mk2 escorts and that was it. from the age of about 8 my mind was mad up that i wanted a mk2 escort! then found classic ford mag existed and started buying it..then found my 'perfect partner' in the classifieds bought the car, and then saw OSF advertised in CF mag and joined up... skip forward a year and im still here

Mk 1 Mark Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Since i passed my driving,I have loved and always wanted a Mk1 mexico. But it took me years to get enought money to buy one... Then the xr/rs turbo mk3 escorts had came out.. And i made a fundamental mistake in selling my 2 owner mexico and buying an XR3i... After owning most hot hatch FWD cars and a 4x4 intergrale. I wanted a rwd car. Cosworths were the next progression. But i had always loved and wanted another "oldskool ford" I went and found a mint mk2 escort...and was going the route of cosworth everyday car Mk2 trackday car Then my engine went bang in the cossie so i had to sell the Mk2 to pay for a nice engine build for my cosworth!!!.. . Then i bought a mk1 and was using that with the intention of building a nice trackday car!! my Cortina come up for sale, And that was it. i sold the Coswrth and my Mk1 escort!! During this time i had been to most car shows everyyear and met up with Ben morley..Darren Posse and a few other @ a car show, I found turbosport And this site was started and have met some really nice people,And some are now really good friends.. And although i have kids and a wife i seem to spend more time on here and on me car than with them, so i think this has become a piece of my family!!! Hail the Old Skool Ford car scene!!! Part of my life for life
