Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 1, 2009 Admin Report Posted June 1, 2009 I was quite happy to see some of the older "new skool" stuff like the R.S.1600i's, the 3 dr Cossie, early XR.3's as they are now actually quite old Even the Saffy's are knocking on a bit As for the much, much newer stuff like the Fociiiii (or whatever the plural is ) I don't think they should have been allowed to race up the strip as it was meant to be Classic Ford ONLY and not RWYB which was on the Saturday and I think you should be allowed to stipulate what runs and what doesn't I would even go as far as to say that they shouldn't be in attendance on a club stand ... I know that some of these guys may well wish they had an Old Skool Motor but it is a CLASSIC Ford Show ... it is NOT Ford Fair and it is not penalising someone to say that they cannot attend if their car doesn't meet the criteria - many shows will not allow you to be on club stands if you don't meet the particular requirements What all this means is that each year WE, the Old Skool fraternity (whichever club you belong to), need to make sure that we continue to attend in huge numbers to keep the "TRUE" Classic Ford Scene alive
R1.Andy Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 ya was a bit modern classic ford ish but was big enough for the plastic lovers .. wot did fook me of was the complete mary in a bmw who drove up and down for the best part of 4 hours King throwing dust every where the numptie mary was really pissin me of i was just about to drag him out the car and King hurt him but was told to leave it.. i said ok but if he does it once moor thats it..the shit head parked it up and left it.. anyone can spin on dirt so why King bother i then had to clean me car with fook all to clean it with..i couldnt open the bonnet as it was filthy cos of twat so all in all wernt happy but apart from that good day.but to much sun
Conor Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 As for the plastic, yea it a bit annoying, but I find it more amusing just to laugh at them. And it's pretty pointless complaining on here, much better off writing into Classic Ford Magazine as they're the event organisers. Perhaps they can put an age limit on the stands or something. So what age limit do you put on? 1983 to stop the jellymoulds? Well that also rules out 2/3 of Mk3 Capri production run, any 2.8i Special, all Brooklands and some MK3 Grandads. Or you make it 1987 in which case, MK3/4 escorts, RST, jellymoulds and RS Cosworths still make the grade. Or you make it RWD only in which case, the MK1 fiestas get ruled out. No easy answer TBH.
Conor Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 I was quite happy to see some of the older "new skool" stuff like the R.S.1600i's, the 3 dr Cossie, early XR.3's as they are now actually quite old Even the Saffy's are knocking on a bit I think you've hit the nail on the head as to where the line needs to be drawn. MK3 Essie shape derivatives (RS1600i, XR3, XR31, MK1 RST) and early 3dr Coss's and maybe Saffs. There are even fewer RS1600i/XR3/XR3i's about than Mk1 Fiestas. As for the much, much newer stuff like the Fociiiii (or whatever the plural is ) I don't think they should have been allowed to race up the strip as it was meant to be Classic Ford ONLY and not RWYB which was on the Saturday and I think you should be allowed to stipulate what runs and what doesn't It's a double edged sword. For me, there was no better sight on that day than seeing a Focus RS and that Mondeo ST24 getting its backside caned by a MK1/2 Essie, Capri or Anglia.
FredTransit Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 The best bet is to put an age limit, as 'Classic' is not from or before a certain year. That having said, 1990 will be 20 years ago next year, how did that happen? Currently I think 25 years or older is about right, but that will let some jelly moulds in. That having said I saw far too many 06 plates!

walsh253 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 I didnt think there was as much plastic there as last year, the easy answer is someone stands at a gate where the club area is and says yes or no and state this on adverts and tickets. I will be camping next year so i dont get stuck in that 1hr an half q on the sunday morning
RETRO_AL Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 A bloke i was talking to with a old ford pop didnt think mk2 escorts were classics, they are comon boy racer cars! People have differant ideas on which cars are classic, this normaly is due to the age group they fall in
Burns Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 last year was terrible for the plastic, this year was much better
X-pack-Glyn Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 I havent really got a problem with the plastic as such, its the morons inside em that i got the problem with... we was camped up in a nice area and was praying no plastic come and set up near us... as soon as you get plastic you get the idiots driving like dickheads and generally causing problems.... i even saw several drunken chav types causing mayhem on the childrens dodgems too
brettp Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 metal bumpers rather than age ? it is hard as different groups of freinds have different cars couple of my mates have cossies perhaps if the racing was kept old skool and put the newer stuffon display in a field may be at shakespear county race way or have one side of the track old skool and the other new and and have a lane each like a show down then all the supporters could fight after like they do in foot ball

It's a rolling age thing. We think xrwee essie/jellys aren't classics and just boy racer cars but the generation after us who grew up with them as kids will think they're classics.
Guest chriscapriman Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 its not an Old Skool Ford show is it all that plastic is not fantastic bollox wont wash , its Classic Ford show , the magazine , and as they recently done buying guides on xrthree's, rs500, xr4x4 etc, i think we know what they view as classic, and personally, im with them, the more the merrier i rekon, even up to focus's if you want to put on a show for just old fords, id say do it and see if it becomes as succesfull as this show has, but i very much doubt it even tho this site has a huge presence on the scene, OSF dont run it
Type49 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 I enjoy watching the new and older Fords- cant help smiling when the plastics get left behind up the strip tho
FredTransit Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Come on though. No way is anything on an 07 plate classic. Be honest now is it? This should be age related. With insurance it's mostly accepted (unless you drive a transit!) that 20+ is classic. As I already said, 1990 will be 20 years next year. I have a problem recognising something from 1990 as classic, but have to accept it as a fact. I don't, however think that anything under 20 years old should be accepted at a classic show.
Guest chriscapriman Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 im not a fan of the modded post 92/93 cars so i just ignore them, always give a little giggle, like the cougar with the audi r8 style body kit, i mean, wtf?? BUT, i wudnt ban them as often they are part of a larger club which might have the odd gem amongst them. also putting age limits on whats lets in is just mental from a buisness point of view, i wudnt think santa pod raceway would be keen. just feels like some people on here like a good old moan far too often about this sort of thing
Mick The Cabbie Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 I was suprised how much plastic was there. I just ignored it though, thought it might go away.. Towards the end of the day, I had just done my last run up the strip and couldn't get back to the OSF stand. The que to get out of the show was backing up past the stand. I drove around a couple of cars and spotted a small gap. So I asked the owner of the orange X pack Zetec Mk2 escy if he'd kindly reverse back a few inches so I could sneak past his nose to get back to the stand. Then suprise suprise, the bloody pile of plastic crap black Focus in front (who could see me in his mirror) refused for the best part of a minute to move fowards a few inches to let me squeeze thu the gap. I tell ya, I soooooooo nearly got out of me car to him. Bloody arrogant arseholes in their plastic crap! GRRRRRRRRRR
RETRO_AL Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 My cos worth is on a classic car poilcy because it 20 years old, near 400bhp only £300 a year fullycomp and protected

THE OSF SHOW
shrek Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 you had a smiley face transit as your centre piece this year, whats all that about i cant see what the problem is with 3 door cossies, you seem to like the engine enough. my MK3 escort Xr had metal bumpers and was older than a 1985 capri but its not a classic Ford Fair is the best show as it covers all fords not just oldskool (dont get me wrong, i love mk1/2 escorts, anglias and cortina's, had a few too) but im a ford fan, and RS cossies, S1 Turbos and early XR's are just as rare as your oldskool fords start your own show, but take away all the sierras, mk3 onward escorts inc S1 & S2, mk2 onward fiestas (how the mk1 is oldskool i dont know) RS focus and ST's, P100 sierras and all the cossies and XR's and it wont be a big show note, jellymolds and xrwee are what this site changes it too
Conor Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Come on though. No way is anything on an 07 plate classic. Be honest now is it? I'll throw something thing into the pot on this.... 2005 Mustang. Instant classic the moment it left the production line. Park one of those babies up and it gets every bit as much attention as a 1965 one. Some things are just right from the off however a Focus ST is not it, no matter how nice the colour.
Conor Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Bloody arrogant arseholes in their plastic crap! GRRRRRRRRRR As a Capri owner, I've felt the same about the MK1/2 Essie crowd in the past, on here and in the mags where it seems to be the case that if you don't have an essie, it ain't worth a toss. Capper owners have to produce a car three times as good as an escort to get a look in. Take Scotch Corner as a prime example. It was started by mainly by our Capri forum as a meet for us with others free to come along but at the last one, the CF mag photographer spent most of his time drooling over bloody Escorts and I heard more than one comment from the essie brigade who were pissed that they weren't invited to the Capri only pre-meet photoshoot.
shrek Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 oh, very funny, not. so i try to make a valid post and it wont accept XRIII or mk3 XR escort, 3 door cossie it says XRwee, or not in here mate, well i would rather eat my own shit than be your mate plastic not fantastic, unless its holding my oldskool ford together or making it quick. pity you all dont have some balls and speak out instead of being puppets to a few, at the end of the day its about keeping fords on the road (and i dont mean the the stuff you can buy parts from over the counter)

THE OSF SHOW Tried that years ago, no one was interested because i didnt have a drag strip even though i have a perfect "(and i mean PERFECT) venue to get us all in... No one turned up because you make statements that can offend, If i was to say "classic ford show - Except scabby escorts full of bog" i may offend someone. I hate coming on this website due to the fact that there are so many people on here that moan about a good turn out at a show, which just happens to be the biggest show of the year. Was there not a seat on your stand?? Why is no one slagginng that off then? Thats plastic, F/G wings are plastic, why are you not slagging them off? F/G quarter bumper....... It pains me to see that there are so many shallow minded people in the classic ford scene, like PPC say, Great cars but "naff old skool ford scene"
