MEXY867M Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 is there a difference between a diesel type 9 gearbox and a petrol type 9 gearbox asking as have been lookin for a 5speed type 9 and have been offered one out of a diesel cheers for your advice peeps,
LEONMEX Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 i think they are the same other than the ratios mate?? but not 100%
Admin Vista Posted June 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted June 2, 2009 I'm pretty sure the diesel ratios are all wrong for a petrol application, don't know about the physical fit of it.
darren f Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 hi darren been looking at gearboxes today my brother has a couple of type 9 boxes petrol and deisels because my is making some funny noises couldnt see any difference between them but dont know about the ratios he has one from a p100 deisel if your struggling to find one did try to find you at the cf to have a natter but unable to track you down they seek him here they seek him there but couldnt find him anywhere cheers mate
FredTransit Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 On a transit the bell housing is different, it bolts off. I would think it's the same for cars. IIRC there is more than one ratio, but no idea how you tell one from another.
JP. Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 If I remember correctly the diesel one is the same as the V6 one ( inputshaft lenght) so it won't fit behind an OHC. If you swap the bellhousing from a V6 its a straight fit to a Cologne engine.
bortaf Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 If I remember correctly the diesel one is the same as the V6 one ( inputshaft lenght) so it won't fit behind an OHC.If you swap the bellhousing from a V6 its a straight fit to a Cologne engine. yep uses the longer input shaft, has crap ratios and uses a deeper bellhousing to clear the thicker flywheel
X-pack-Glyn Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 petrol, diesel... they both suck a big one when it comes to box design...stick with the 4 speed.
andy a Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I'm in Kings Lynn and have a good pinto type 9 that I'm not using and need a diesel one for my p100 if anyone wants to do a swap
