FredTransit Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 yep toads are warty, walk and are dry, frogs are smooth, hop and are wet. Normally toads don't need water to live in, frogs need to live in it. Both need to return to the water to breed. As you don't have a pond, I would say you have toads. Cane toads are the ones you lick to get high, they are from the USA and are huge. Our toads will only make you vomit if you lick them!
accord83 Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I read this last night and laughed, then this morning I was reading my paper when a blood curdling scream came from the garden, there was my wife shaking and squawking, pointing at a frog that had jumped out at her, I nearly had an accident laughing!! Frog 2" long, Wife 5'11" tall. Frog won!!

FredTransit Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Seriously, have you thought of contacting a local wildlife rescue service? Try the RSPCA, if they can't help you they should know who can. Tell them you are completely paving over the garden and they will have nowhere to go.

Managed to evict the last of the frogs and dig out all the bushes they were hiding in so shouldn't see many more . Although we did find some baby frogs that were about the size of a fingernail which were canny though

Mr2Caps Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Frogs and Toads generally don't like being picked on, so when you said they were all heading in the same direction, I reckon they were lulling you into a false sense of security, they are all meeting in their little froggy pub plotting revenge, regaining their strength, recruiting reinforcements.....one day, when you least expect it, you'll open your door and hundreds of little buggy eyes will be looking at you...............mind you it probably wont happen, but I wouldn't have taken the chance....
Durham Fiesta Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 your nearly right , just went to move some of the bushes that are ready for the tip and there were more of the buggers underneath them Fred , never really done anything with them as they all just hopped away so no doubt they will find the next best place
