mk1super Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I just wondered peoples thoughts on modern power plants in old fords, me i like em both but have had mixed reactions few of my mates, a few think keep it period others think fit what ever makes it go as fast as poss. Was curious to others thoughts.... All steel x flow or 200 bhp Zetec? you get the idea
NeilT Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 in my opion its your car fit what you want!! but i got in to osf to get away from new skool engins and there ecu's and corpacks and all the carap lol
Yeomans22 Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 i really wanted to fit an xe in my car as its power straight out the box, but the cost was a bit much, so now just fitted a 1600 xflow and can't fault it. gotta keep it 4 speed too. but at the end of the day its all about keeps old ford on the road weather its got a modern engine or an old x flow.
retrorigg Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 i stick with osf cars coz of there simplicity, easy to work on no ecu,s or stupid electrical components, points and condensors all the way lol, osf engines for e all the way
garyv6100e Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Old Skool Engines for me i can fix a dizzy adjust carbs etc bloody hopless with ecu's
Smudger105e Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Horses for courses, there's room for both, Xe/Zetec, or a screaming 1200 pre crossflow, Ive thought about both for my car!
vibrating_Cake Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Old Skool Engines for me i can fix a dizzy adjust carbs etc bloody hopless with ecu's once an ecu is wired its maintenance free and you can run a modern engine on carbs.... and theres no need to replace points&condencers and once its mapped you have more power throughout the rev range compared to dizzy powered cars
pauln Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Modern engines for me as they are cheap power in a daily. If I had a car just to show I would stay with old technology.
andy a Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 peetecs and ecowrecks should be cubed up at the same time as the car they were originally in are cubed Having said that I'm thinking about chucking a 24 valve Cossy in my 2.8 Capri so I'm a hypocrite by my own standards
JP. Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Did the don't know thing cause................Viper V10 in a Capri is something to think about. Have seen a Opel Comodore with it and it did go like stink.

stickerboy Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I'm running my 2.3 Duratec on carbs. Haven't got a clue what it goes like because I haven't driven it yet.
285Andy Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 EFI and turbo's for me lol! but nothing tooooo techy though. wont/cant be arsing around with lap tops all weekend. i want to just start the bugger up and go drive it
Slammed Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 i prefer old skool engines, BUT i have been very tempted by the newskool engines which are readily avaliable to us all, i have been extremly tempted by the duratec, but i cant aford it yet, so i suppose the oldskool engine appeals massively to me in that respect, as you can tune them for peanuts(sometimes) that is until you get the power bug, then the newsool engines kick in i would guess...............
deltamal Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Love my 2.4 Cossie YB, it's somewhere between old and new I guess, 80's engine, but nasp, with Nos......
