Hi Guys - wondering if there would be some interest in doing something like this - whether it be a track day or something like a skid pan etc - all would be welcome of course but lets have a show of X Packs tearing it up .

what do you think?

Who's up for it?

OK guys - I will get back to this thread with details/location of Skid Pans etc etc

It will be fairly central I would of thought - I'm off to find out ....

Ok James - sling it to me on a PM

have had a few responses from Skid pans,

I would like some feedback from you guys please on this or It just wont happen. Those who are interested in becoming a better driver, learning/honing rear wheel driving skills etc please post in the thread.

The Idea was to all go out in our Cars up to a track or a skid pan - say hello have lunch do either Skids/ laps and the boogie on home. If anyone wants to just meet up for a drive then thats cool too.

responses from Skid pans so far :-

Skid Pan outside Chelmsford -

"We use our own vehicles only. We do not allow other vehicles onto the skid area owing to the fact that vehicles would deposit oil on to the road. So our policy is our vehicles only. We have Rear wheel drive , front wheel. We cover all four causes of skidding and four wheel skid. After which we allow free time for Linking, or what you call drifting.

All our instructors are retired Police class one drivers"

Skid Pan from Wiltshire.

"I don't think we can help you I'm afraid. We've got no space to run drifting, and being a front wheel drive Mondeo the techniques required are different to your RWD drift cars.

I'm afraid we have problems with noise objectors, so dare not run anything that can be described as "energetic" which may create more problems.

Sorry I can't help you."

As far as prices go I have seen there prices and based on the responses I get from here I shall ask for group discount etc if people decide to go this route

What say you lot then?

Ok - another response here from Drivetech @ Castle Combe

anyone used Drive-tech before??

"Hi Kevin,

Many thanks for your recent enquiry. This is definitely something we would be interested in, however, you wouldn't be able to use your own cars on the skid pan. The non-toxic solution we use to make the skid pan slippery would cover the cars and it would be dangerous to put them back on the roads after. For the Skid Pan course you would use our Rover's and BMW's and the session would work as follows;

This would be for a maximum of 12 drivers per session. We would split the group into smaller groups of 3 drivers. After a safety briefing the drivers would go out onto the skid pan and experience skidding in Rovers and BMW’s (front and rear wheel drive) once all drivers have had a go there will then be some class tuition which lasts approx 20 mins where the instructors will talk them through what they did wrong and how they should handle the cars. They then go back out and put this into practice, the instructors will then demonstrate a braking exercise at speed before all drivers have ago themselves. After everyone has had ago at the braking exercises there will be a fun time-trial so they can all put what they have learnt to the test and there will be a small prize awarded for the fastest driver.

COST: £900 + VAT (Max 12 drivers)

If you have any questions or if I can check available dates for you please do not hesitate to contact me."

So Far £900 for 12 drivers with the VAT works out at £86.25 each

Who knows - we might be able to do something with the Price..

sounds like good fun, but it would be good to find somewhere to take our own cars for a good old hoon about
