omg its going to cost nearly half a million to remove it ! then a privately owned university is going to build on it! now if thats not a waste of tax payers money i dont know what is !why do they need a swimming pool anyway im sure theres a river running through leister

there is a canal running right under the bridge, make them swim in that and yes leicester has several swimming pools and if they wantr todo uni swimming they can bugger up the road to loughborough uni who have an olympic sized pool for training our athletes

this copper was a lovely open minded chap and didnt mind us being there what so ever, as far as he was concerned the gate was wide open when he got there and nothing to stop us being there, however he had been told to get down there as the protest had esculated.........dont think they quite expected to find a rave up there and his sergent soon ordered back up, everyone was allowed to carry on though they just wernt letting any more up and if you went down you werent getting back on

I don't see a problem with peaceful a peaceful protest. If you want to climb a structure and put up a sign what's the issue? ... after all, you didn't chain yourself to it and then expect the authorities to come along and feed you using tax payers money  There are a lot worse things you young 'uns could be doing

Good for you Sam for voicing your opinion. Shame it has not worked out for you on this occasion but at least you had the guts to stand up with your mates and exercise your right to freedom of speech :thumbsup:

Monday the fence ahem...........fell over  in all honestly though that was 2 drunk chavs, police turned up just told them it was tiome to go home :lol::lol::lol: as the law works it was then totally legal for us to walk straight in, later on after some builders had to be called out to put it back up the police turned up again to tell us we needed to get out but ho hum as the law works no one was actually allowed to be forceably removed so 2 copper and 3 builders were kept up till 10:30pm with my mate fully informing them of the laws and that we were legal to be there (although come 9 i thought fook it and a load of us went pub  )

this isnt just me or my mates, this is the people of Leicester turning up, so many people are stopping by to say how much they despise the council for this and its a shame to see the decision they made

and so many cars busses taxis are beeping horns in support as they pass, one of the bosses of the bus companies has said to its drivers there not allowed too so they just flash thier lights and wave now

Seems Lecicester council are determined to finish what the 60's government started. From what I've read, the Goverment of the time wanted to close the Great Central Railway long before Beeching came along, and tactics were employed to deliberately run the Great Central into the ground. Seems now like the modern day Leicester council are determined to finish the job and remove the last remaining remnants of what was the Great Central Railway. Except of course for the preserved section a bit further north.

dont worry Jo its been in the papers and on the wireless all week :D

2 protestors got onto the bridge and speant the night up there last night then phoned the radio up and were live on air

well just to let you all know its game over for the bridge! another chunk of our history lost forever :evil:

alot of people have put alot of effort into trying to save it or at least raising awareness to the people of Leicester what the council and uni are doing to our city with thier corrupt behind closed doors handshakes

there were the illegal infiltrations and banners

a peacefull protest

an illegal rave

the fence came down

lots of peaceful protesting on site

a lady chained herself to it monday

all in all its a sad loss but at least we tryed, we can look back in the future and say that at least :( ...........

a chunk of bridge lying on the floor next to the scrap metal skip, just look at them rivets and apreciate the work gone into that single peice alone, given the caveman technology of the 1800's.........wiped out by a narrowminded council in the blink of an eye in its 120year lifespan

14763_347072770053_505635053_9887514_6722447_n.jpg

and there she is missing alot of iron work

note the razor wire to keep the peoples out......which has failed on several ocasions as people HAVE got in despite 24 hour 3 man security team and police on standby

TBH as it's demolition is council funded, it will be costing YOU thousands not them. The contractor will pass on delay costs to the council who will add it to your council tax bills next year..................along with the cost of the extra policing and security.

i find this slightly annoying, i think its wrong to pull all the old stuff down that is perfectly fine to build some modern crap on it, it is like the loacal carpark near me the get carter one. yes it isnt pretty and needed work but it was still a landmark, but no it wasnt modern enough and whats happening its getting pulled down and a huge f****Ing tesco is being built over it when there already is a huge one there suc a waste of history and it was the only one left in the country

Sam, you're a freakin' hero. Just read the whole thread, wish i (and the rest of the nation) had the motavation you and your mates do. I'd happily pay another tenner a year council tax to "fund" escapades like this.
