chunkys mk1 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 after 2 weeks of waiting i finaly got my ashley for my mk1 escort and i have to say i wish i never bothered i am struggling to say anthing nice about it the fit is a joke it was 3" to short on the centre section and it sounds no different to the standard system i know they are cheep systems but i didnt expect to have to start welding extra pipe on to get it to fit has anyone else had ny probs
Davewrc Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I think everyone has a problem with them. Its not hard to make a escort exhaust really is it? there a simple design.
dawesy1700 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 yep, i hated mine too, im putting a peter lloyd rallying one on, i've seen them on a mk2 and they fit pretty well.
samurai Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I got the 2.5 inch single box system, only problem was getting the box part over the axle as its big and my mex is lowered Had to loosen 1 side of the suspenion to get it on
MightySprocket Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I got one from RACE and it fit pretty well but was a little loud so i changed it for a twin box system which was no quieter but strangled the mid range so i put the loud one back on
samurai Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 104db @ 3000rpm i was told not even legal
MightySprocket Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 104db @ 3000rpm i was told not even legal thats about right
samurai Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I think everyone on my street how has ear plugs
Copey Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 is it bad that my side exit is louder than an ashley system then?
Lukey48screamer Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 No mate, thats definatley good - as long as you dont mind! I ever understand people winging about their car being too loud, surely thats the point isnt it?!
mez Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 i got a twin box system with 4-2-1 manifold, the down pipe off the manifold drops so low it scrapes every where and the system had to be modded in more than one place! when i can afford might go for a custom s/steel exhaust. be interested to hear others thoughts on that.
samurai Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 I have a 4-2-1 3 piece 2 1/4 manifold with bigger pipes, makes the rest of the exhaust run close to the floor pan and its touching just behide the drivers seat where the drain hole is. I have the back of the exhaust on Mini rubber mounts which lower it by an inch. No problems so far

Dad had his 4-1 stainess steel exhaust custom made locally for his lotus, looks stunning!

paul capri Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 I put a peter llyod system on my capri, it would be fine if the car was standard height and you never encountered speed bumps... the centre box bracket made it sit ridiculously low, and when you went over a bump it would hit the axle. I took it all off and welded a mount straight onto the centre box to make it sit as high as possible, I had to shorted the rear section and tighten the bend over the axle. Manifold is great, but system needs abit of modification to fit perfectly. Still, you get what you pay for, it was only about £80
4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 my ashley system was a poor fit too but i didnt need to weld any more into it!! As you know chunkie, we spent ages messing on with it that saturday!!! Anyone know what the sportex ones are like? they seem cheap and are on ebay
bigglesmk2 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 I had a full system Peter Llyod rallying exhaust on my 4 door and it was the dogs dangleys shame i sold the car
RossMK2 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 are janspeed any good thats what i was looking a t putting on mine
antz Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 yep, i hated mine too, im putting a peter lloyd rallying one on, i've seen them on a mk2 and they fit pretty well. until the backbox snaps in half less than 14000 miles later. They may fit better than ashley but the quality is about the same.....shite!
