over_head_cam Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 I like it. The madder the better I say
Savvi Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 Apparently it goes like stink and the turbo whistles nicely !!! I might have a chance of the complete car already up and running, thinking it should be easy to transfer into my van
john_3.0s Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 looks good mate, nout wrong with an oil burner
Fiesta Steve Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 and the turbo whistles nicely !!! Probably an air leak
turnover Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 they use this conversion alot in malta good engine, whens it coming over, get it bought
caprinerd Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 no this engine sav its a quick little unit and reliable as well son inlaw had one in his viva rapid little shit that was
Savvi Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Thanks for the comments, i think it would be a good move for me as i want to use it regally and diesel makes sense for my business, i understand it's not everyones choice but i haven't had a petrol car (apart from my old fords) for years. I will learn more in the next day or so, he has let me down before so i'm not getting too excited, i think it would work out too expensive to do from scratch but by buying the complete car it should be ok. I've already had someone wanting to buy the estate so i should get some money back from that.
Wessie Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 i like diesels theres some cracking engines out there in diesel form your car - your choice mate
SmokeEm Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 i like diesels theres some cracking engines out there in diesel form your car - your choice mate +1
MG-Ford Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Yes do it. Perfect chip fat burner, I would run a Durv in the Capri if it had daily duties.
Stu_B Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Theres a matt black 306 turbo diesel around here that is pretty rapid! I keep trying to race him but he must know I've got crap gearing as he always heads out to long open roads I'll let you know how badly I lose when I meet him at the lights
Andrade Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Very common in malta, but new road tax regulations make diesel cars worth nothing here. thats why everyone is trying to sell their diesel conversions. so there are quite aq few deals around for people looking for a shell or something.
bomber1 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 think ive talked myself into tdi ing the zodiac as it is a daily driver (or should be) as i still have the mk1 escort for going like a loon in. or if i v8 the zodiac the escorts got to go plus i still have the trailer to build for the goth machine

Do you have any details of how they do this conversion ? As i said it may not turn up yet but i like the idea so might see if i can do it anyway. Mainly like to know how they do the clutch, flywheel and bell housing/ gearbox. Thanks
Andrade Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 The usual recipe would be to flange the engine to the existing gearbox and possibly do a new flywheel/modify the existing one to keep the existing clutch and pressure plate. however this totally up to the person carrying out the modification, in old fords it is easier to be creative so one cant really tell.
Savvi Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 True to his word the guy rang me today and said the cars had arrived, he had around 10 delivered to him including the diesel estate. It's a 1968 and although needs a couple of plates for mot it's solid for it's age has the Toyota td with a type 9 it seems to have a slight misfire at present but nothing to bad, i intend to strip off what i need and sell the rest on, unless i can easily get it Mot'd and registered !!!!
marky4 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 nice i think a diesel engine is agreat idea
ratman Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Cracking Idear I have allways fanced a MK1 Cortina estate with a late shape mondy or simmilar diesel engine Proper sleeper/tow car
