4-Door Pete Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Hi Ford lovers, I'm new to OSF but have been in the Ford scene for about 5 years, Tracy (the other half) had a nice 1.6 Mk2 Capri which we sold to get our Mk1 Facelift. This has undergone a full restoration and is now tearing up the countryside. We are active members of the Kent Capri and Ford club and regularly attend meets and shows. You can't get enough of a good thing in my book so I have recently purchased a 4-door Mk1 Escort needing a full restoration. The plan is to turn it into hillclimb/trackday car. So any advice would be greatly received. take care all Pete

rfs Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Welcome, Some advise for a 4-door trackday car; Make it a 2-door Lighter, stiffer etc. Not sure if there are many 4-door trackday Mk1's. Would be something different I guess. Will be following your project, I like the idea very much..

I know a 4-door isn't he ideal base for a trackday/hillclimb car but Retro Ford have done it with Gold Member. I know it won't be as light or stiff as a 2 door but the 4-doors are getting rare now so I think it would be a shame to change the rear quarter panel or weld up the doors. The roll cage should stiffen it up and I'll just have to make sure the engine is powerful enough to over come the extra weight. pete
redrocket Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 You know what you're right. 4 door mk1s are rare enough by comparison to the 4door-2door mk2 situation. You could make a 4 door mk1 into a right sleeper if you wanted Good luck with project. Ohh and welcome
