samurai Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Decide what power and what money you want to spend first
RossMK2 Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 have you the three issues of classic ford with the three part building a 2.1 pinto article? they were august, september and october
MK2Ed Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Decide what power and what money you want to spend first And then exceed it... Seriously, otherwise you'll end up spending more in the long run...
evil knievel Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 have you the three issues of classic ford with the three part building a 2.1 pinto article? they were august, september and october I'm afraid I don't As to power... Well what could I expect? I wouldn't have much to spend... £500 to £1k... Maybe it would be cheaper to go with something else? As I know pintos take lots of cash.

evil knievel Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 Thus why I'm doing it in a few years
vibrating_Cake Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 dont bother, as said above headwork..... thats most of your budget gone . build up a nice 2.0 with a 2nd hand ported n polished head with a FR32 cam, standard bottom end rebuilt and run it on the 38dgas itll only be~130 ponies but itll easily exceed that in torque! then remember a nice exhaust system
BIG G Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 oooooooooooh yeah i love a budget build ..... bring it on
evil knievel Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 I suppose thats a good option. But I'm planning to do this over years, and don't think a cossie hasn't crossed my mind.
tom28 Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 id love cossie one day, pipe dreams for me thoo
caprinerd Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 most of the power in the pinto is locked in the head so put what you have into buyilding a decent top end save some more and get a second hand bottom end and then throw some more cash at that then when its done remove your engine and put your head onto the bottom and install that way you will be able to use the capri till you build the bottom end cf done a bdget build that came to£4000 and did the build themselves have a chat to the engine builders on here and see what they say you should concerntrate your £1000 on
samurai Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Just buy a stage 3 engine for like 1000 pounds...used of course. My uncle went that route and its still a good engine

escort21 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 But define a 'stage 3', one engine company could have a stage 3 which is stage 2 at a different company...all a bit misleading really All you want is a killer head skimmed for more compression/decent cam and dirty great carbs and use a cheapo bottom end and if it blows up just replace the bottom end

fastferretzetecmk1 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 All i can say is head work, thats the key to a good pinto !, bullt a fare few in my time, dont skimp on the head,
evil knievel Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 Hmmmmmmm. I'm just not sure I'd be willing to spend that much on a pinto, I don't know what it is inside of me
samurai Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Call mmm rally and competition equipment..nice guys and thats where my uncle got his engine from
James HPE Motorsport Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 you'll get about 100bhp with your budget! leave it standard and save up to build something proper! U'll spend more money in the long run otherwise
