pnwrs2000 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There is an open petition to get the government to bring back the 25 year year road tax exemption. Not sure it will work but it must be worth a try. Follow this link http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/save-old-cars/ You will then receive a confirmation email and your vote is only counted when you click the link supplied in the email. ONLY OPEN UNTIL 24TH OCTOBER 2009
GT_Jim Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 will they do it though as it will go against their scrappage scheme
.pete. Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I signed, but I read that they need at least 10,000 signatures before it even gets considered. So far there are 1300.
stevepeanut Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I've seen this exact same petition come up twice over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, the government and mainly europe dont like old cars, I read that they'd like us to not be driving anything older than 10 years old as a daily vehicle. Its a shame, I would love to see the 25 year free tax brought back in, if it did, I would buy at least one maybe two more old cars.
l j shaw Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Or you can keep reminding them that all pre 73 cars, dont pay road tax, and then they can change the rules and stop it, then all cars will have to pay it. The goverment needs money, they are hardly going to loose more income by making it a rolling system
JP. Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Rule still aplies here in Holland but..............with an ending date of 1986. Cars manufactored after that date wont be tax free anymore. First Siera's will, later ons won't. Doesn't matter anyway cause within a few years we have to pay per mile (miletax so to speak).
Copey Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Doesn't matter anyway cause within a few years we have to pay per mile (miletax so to speak). pretty much doin that with the tax on petrol at the moment!! dont know if the tax on fuel is as ban in holland as here like
jimbo Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Sorry to rain on the parade.................... A national debt of £800bn and interest at around £35bn per year. Expect to pay more tax (and get less for it) Thanks Gordon
5hane Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 dont know if the tax on fuel is as ban in holland as here like Tax is stupidly high in holland, highest taxes in europe / proably the world if im not mistaken ?
radar tech Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 done not that i think it will do much good i have been signing these for years
stuartp Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 i have among the paperwork that came with my car, the letter that got sent to the owner when they decided to scrap the 25 years old free road tax scheme. it's been crumpled up and torn in anger and then sellotaped back together again - i can completely understand doubt this petition will make any impact at all but can't hurt to try
w p e Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 done for what good it will do . but you never know
lhd1600e Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 signed it again. this looks like the same petition that was going around last year . lets hope it works
