Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 20, 2009 Admin Report Posted October 20, 2009 You will get more for your money if you go for a 4 door Mk2 Escort but I'm sure that the kind folks on here will give you lots of helpful advice and information as a young chap looking for your first car
Admin Vista Posted October 20, 2009 Admin Report Posted October 20, 2009 Hi in the next few months i should have about £2000 to spend on an old ford i want a mk2 escort hopefully a 2 door so what should i expect in the way of condition. Thanks for any help michael Sadly, not much these days for a 2 door in that ball park I'd expect a project with quite a bit of rust to sort. As Jo says though, it can still buy you a nice 4 door or perhaps an estate? Estates are proving popular of late. How about this (if he still has it) http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=95083 or this http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=149419
stuartp Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 either of them would be an awesome first car 4 door works for me with a mk2 (had one myself years ago) and i'd have that brown estate in a flash! i managed to get myself a mk1 2 door escort for 2 and a half last year by the way it needed a bit of work and to be painted but it's do-able good luck and well done on getting an old ford!
sampedlar06 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 out of them two i would probally have the white ghia (shame its a bit far for me ) the other thing you ned to think about is insurance that ghia would probally rape you i now i would have done me a few years ago. Good luck wiht finding one
RossMK2 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 my 4 door cost £2000 it had tax and mot Thats how it was the day after i bought it without mods
Yeomans22 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 £2000 for a 2 door escort now, don't expect it to be on the road without a few quid more to spend on it, that said, mk2 cortinas or nice and you can pick one up for £1500 which will leave 500 for insurance tax etc. Paul.
bigdaz27 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 mk5 cortinas are still dirt cheep and a mk2 granada you could get a good one for £2000
Mr2Caps Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Mk 1 Fiesta's are quite affordable too and should be quite insurable...
100edave Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 chin up you'll find one when your not looking for one put it this way i only paid £250 for mine (alt+p)
FredTransit Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Don't forget to add to the price of the car INSURANCE! Depending on your age, it could be pretty hefty if you go for any sporty mods.
H.P.E harry Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 When i first passed my test at 17 an insurace company wanted £3000 to insure my mk2 escort, it was completely standard with no mods and a 1300 engine Needless to say i told them where to go
G7rev Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 shameless plug but buy the new copy of classic ford theres a couple of 4 door mk2's in there below your budget, with tax and mot Trev
5hane Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Don't forget to add to the price of the car INSURANCE! Depending on your age, it could be pretty hefty if you go for any sporty mods. Definatly get soem quotes My lowest had been £1800 (1.3 4door ghia, lowered and rs alloys)
stuartp Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 i don't think i had an engine bigger than 1 litre until my third or fourth car

caprinerd Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 when you see a motor you really like take someone that know that model side out and exactly where to look for the rust this way you can barter on the price or walk away to look more, also dont be in to much of a hurry to get the first car you see mate take your time money will only grow if it aint spent
