At last, my horrible modern Ford will be going (well in 8 months anyway)so i will be on the hunt for a new daily. Question is, what do you think i should go for ?

Only slight problem is that i will be using the car for work, as well as to actually get to and from work, but im office based so its not like it will ever be full of tools etc.

My dream would be a nice little mk1 Escort (xflow, pinto, zetec, whatever really) but i nearly equally like mk2 Escorts. Im also quite fond of a Capri (1, 2 or 3 in any version apart from a V4), 105e or 100e. I know they're not really for this forum but im also quite partial to all things Cosworth related, although prefer RWD

I did also think about an E30 M3 but any that i can find in my price bracket seem to be a bit rough so then i thought about an E36 M3 or something similar. Thing is, i really like OSF's though so the BMW idea will probbaly cheese me off sooner than i think, especially come the show seasons !

All must be 2 door though. Sorry, 4 doors just arent my thing

I'll probably have about £8k ish to spend.

What do you think ?

Have you got secure parking at work? If not then I probably wouldn't use an OSF as a daily commute, especially one worth £8k.

well, you'd get a pretty decent example of any of the cars you mentioned for that kind of money but if a mk1 escort is your first choice i'd say go for one of them.

mk1 escort was my first choice too - wanted one since i was at school but that didn't stop me looking at anglias, pops etc - i'm glad i went for the escort though

105e or 100e. I know they're not really for this forum

On the contrary, they are very much for this forum

For £8000 you can get pretty much an immaculate RS2000 MK2, or a pretty tidy MK1 or a fully sorted 100/105E

mate, i drive a mk3 capri every day and it's comfy as hell as well as good fun when i want it to be

you could do endless things with a capper for the money you have, mine's cost me about £1500 to buy and run for a year (and that includes a new engine)

it might be just me but i wouldnt want a 8k osf out in all weathers im not saying wrap them up in cotton wool i used mine as much as i could but i would never intentully take it out in the rain if avoidable or on salty roads

i used to run a mint 3dr cosworth as a daily and loved it although not the cheapest car to maintain.

i would love an e30 m3 its one of my all time favourite cars although dont think you will get a good one for 8k.

i think if i was going for an osf then i'd get a brooklands capri but i personaly use a dc2 integra type-r,9000 rpm,200bhp an amazing chassis and bullit proof reliability, definately worth a look. :D

my mk2 is just show and meet car really and the odd drive out when i learn to drive im want a mk5 fiesta but if i was going old skool would have to be mk1 granarda cuz its a proper cruzer

Ok I'm biased, but I ran a Mk3 capri as my daily for many years, not just to and from work, but for work as well, don't see why you couldn't still do the same. Mk 1 or 2 Granada is in similar vein, comfy too!

I have to kind of agree, if I had 8k in an OSF I don't think I would use it as a daily driver, like he said, they shouldn't be wrapped up in cotton wool but I wouldn't want to take one out in wind and rain everyday?

Why not find a half tidy Mk2 Granny or a Capri for £1000 ish and put the rest into something to use on nice days etc?

Just a suggestion :)

I use my Mk1 Fiesta daily, and it only owes me about £600-£700 ish, but I still hate driving it when it's raining, (or not - bloody salty Blackpool air!) knowing that the rust will be getting in here and there.
