rallyesport04 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 i love mk1 an mk2 gannys if i had the space i would have one of each oh an a mk1 granny coupe
tootman318 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 i love granada's ! and theres nothing better then seeing 30 of them in a huge pile up hope your joking
caprinerd Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 there`s a breakers near here called norfolk salvage next to it is a banger boys yard and must be close to 30 mk2 granada`s in there and he wont part with any of them, he also has capri`s and cortina`s in there as well
5hane Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I mean, if I gave say £250 for a rare Jag or whatever, to the right person, it might be worth £1000 or more to restore, but a car bought for racing, is a car that's being raced So you take that persons chance of owning there pride and joy, for a few laps round a track "looking good"
bortaf Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Grannys have never been loved that much TBH and still aint, that's why they are the cheapest of any for Ford from any given generation It's a fact of life that small cheap to run motors are the favs, the bigger they are the less they are liked, look at BMW 5 series and 7s, fook all to buy but a 3 series? that's a differant story, escort Mk1 5G, granny Mk1 2G if your lucky, take a poll, how many granny owners conmpaired to escort owners on here I've saved more cortinas than most and sent nearly the same amount round the track (not with me driving cos i'm a poof ) , it's just the way it is, accept it, use it From what i'm told a Mk2 granny would be ni-on matched by a Mondeo, can't get enough of em to breeak and sell on, i'm even taking pics for in 15 years time when all the classic mondeo owners are on here moaning about the rarety of thier rides
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 The banger boys bought the car fair and square so if they want to smash it up, its their choice!!!
jamie Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I went along to the banger world final recently and out of nearly 170 cars I would say a good 2/3rds of them were a mixture of mk1/mk2 Granadas. Even a mk1 coupe limo that did look wicked. They do keep turning up! There must have be thousands and thousands and thousands of them made.
FredTransit Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 The only good thing about bangering grannies is, they will run out one day. And the tracks will see no more of em. Quite frankly I would rather break a granny than sell it to a banger racer, at least that way I would know it had gone to some GOOD use, instead of good car going for a few minutes to inflate the ego of the person who is driving it. Oh, and DON'T tell me they sell spares for cars on the road, they only destroy cars that are no good for driving. They ruin far more good shells and panels than any of us will see in a lifetime. So they sell some trim and interiors, marvellous. That does not, to me, make up for what they waste. OO look at me, I am smashing something rare! Grow up

FredTransit Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Um, not so far! I eventually bought my own back bumper, off the bloke I got the spares engine from. Nobody seems to have a grey leather passenger seat either. TBH, now I am thinking about it, it would feel like somebody getting a kidney by shooting a perfectly innocent person in a bus que....

Grow up my ego was great when i hit a rare motor at the end of a straight & put the back wheels up over there head I bet most people would snap up some cheap spares off a banger racer, just sold an old 2.3 engine to a mate for a drink to go in his mk2 pre facelift that he had off me that i WAS going to race but did'nt have the space to store it as i already had 22 of the old crappers laying around. End of the day you either love or hate banger racing but for me it keeps the rusty boxy ugly old s**t motors off the road. Thank you

Grow up Like I said, they paid for it with their own money so they are entitled to do whatever they want with it!!! If they were stealing them off the street then that would be a different matter altogether!!! What's it to you if they buy a million pound house, kit it out with top of the range stuff and then burn it down...? If people don't like seeing rare motors get smashed up then... A) Don't watch it and They should have got in there first and bought the rare motor before the banger bos did!! SIMPLES Gets abit boring listening to people whinge on about banger boys! Its their adrenelin rush just like jumping in my escort and going seriously sideways is mine!!!
FredTransit Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 A) I don't watch it nor do I want to see pictures of cars that are about to be wasted. This is not Oval Chat so why put them on here? I would buy them but half the time the people who wouldn't waste them don't get to see them. The previous owners don't know what they have and sell them, to have them disappear into stockpile yards (as mentioned here) never to see the road again. People do offer good money for them (again mentioned here) but seemingly it's better they are smashed up. My Mk1 SWB could have been sold as banger racer, it was a local van and yet I never saw it about, probably belonged to an old boy or even the previous owner died, either way I didn't see where it came from. Yet the seller did, how I don't know. Luckily he thought better of racing it and sold it on ebay instead.
