Silverback Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Anyone here got any tips on how to remove the stuff from hard to get areas. Slowly getting there with cleaning the underside of the Escort off but there's only so much you can get to with a knotted wire wheel. Got to the chassis rail/wheel well area last night and quite frankly it's stumped me on how I was meant to get anything in there....
Fishtailparka Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 It washes off quite well with panel wipe or thinners. I use panel wipe because it doesn't smell anything like as bad. Scrape off what you can first.
Silverback Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 Cheers for that, I've got a little scraper in my box somewhere so shall root that out and stuck in then!
Andrade Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 My dad damaged a nerve in his wrist when he was removing the underseal on his lotus. He actually had to get it operated, keeping that in mind i decided to sand blast mine
john_3.0s Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 i use an old electric hot air gun, gets it nice and soft and comes off a treat doing less damage to the paint work underneeth
mk2dk Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I used a heat gun, and went over a small area each day. Was'nt the funniest job.
Silverback Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 ...keeping that in mind i decided to sand blast mine I did get a quote to have mine done (albeit the whole car), almost dropped my phone when he said it would be £1200..... I'll give the heat gun a go tomorrow too, see if that helps any.
radjay mk1 Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 use a heat gun & scrapper then clean it with jizer.
BIGKEV Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 rent a portable sand blaster and it wont cost much - Wish I had done that!!
bortaf Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 soak it in diesel, cheapest and safest way i spend a few days spraying it on with an atomiser then wipe it off
tom28 Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 hi mate, use a blow torch works a treat
Smudger105e Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 And you are removing underseal, not Waxoyl Both very different beasts!!
