red-rum816 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i agree capris are a lot harder, thats all i raced and the od cortina, bluebirds and primeras are crap, your capri looked good darren where did u used 2 race.
bortaf Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Mondeos are where it's at now, they'd drive through a primera out tother side take a quick T cut and go back on the road Chap i know (gold tooth anyone?) has 20 grannys in one yard and that's the samll yard Not sure a capri is harder than granny, seen a few have a tussle and never seen a cappa come off better
caprinerd Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 tsr wont let capri`s and granada`s race against each other as they go on kerb weight as well as cc
In The Pit Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 OK here we go again. I am currently cutting up a Mk2 transit. It is not fit enough for the road, but would be sound enough for the track. No way would I banger it, or allow it to be bangered. Here's why. Engine and box - diesel conversion on a Mk2 transit front axle - disc conversion on a Mk1 Rear axle - spare. windscreen into my ambulance OK you say, those bits may have survived or be surplus to use on the track. Now tell me any of you out there will use it after Scuttle - went into a very early Mk1 Front roof and dash - went into a Mk2 crewcab Passenger side gutter section - into another Mk2 Interior (not seats, they were shagged) went into my SWB Also spares you just don't get every day Lock set (including ignition barrel) Doors Steering column Servo and brake master. Tailgate and (cut out) mechanism - spares or convert a barn door to tailgate I make that 8 vans on the road still, none of which would be possible if it had gone round the oval. THAT'S why I get pissed off about banger racing. It's the shear waste of it. Oh, if anybody does want to banger what's left, be my guest. As for rushing out and 'saving' the cars that are destined for the track, I only need to win the lottery and watch me. There really will be nothing left to banger if I do, I will have the lot and break or resto them. Very well said 100% agree with you. The way people still insist on banger racing old skool fords there wont be much of a scene left in afew years as most of the cars will have been banger raced or rallied into extinction. January 6th 2020 - Ford KA anyone??? .......... anyone????
Guest chriscapriman Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 some pikeys stole my mates mint MK3, that has probably found its way to banger track! dam pikeys i doubt it, mk3 granadas are just a big jelly mould and fold like a piece of paper. this is my old road car, pre facelift mk2 granny 2.3 v6 it looked nice and shiny from the outside but there were so many faults and bodges by previous owners it would have cost a fortune to put right. i advertised it on a few websites as breaking for spares but had very little interest so i had a bit of fun with it before it went to the scrap yard is that the one ive got the spare headlamps off shame you didnt keep the bumpers tho, cud of used them too ya swine

January 6th 2020 - Ford KA anyone??? .......... anyone???? Yes BUT there's a dam site more granadas about than Mk2 transits, no-on want to buy granadas, they are worth less than a Mk2 transit in similar condion ect ect like i say i can go get pics of probably 40 grannys in mayby 3 yards and not one has a mk2 transit in it Banger raced into exstinctiom yeh right do you have any idea how many classics were saved last year by RACERS who passed them on to enthusiasts cos they were rare ? no thought not See people see one small section of a hobby and then decide all the people in that hobby are the same, it's just NOT true, not all racers steal cars to race, not all racers will race anything and 80% of racers i know actually have classics on the road and spend more tiome than most of the moaners helping to keep other classics on the road, how many cars did you personly save last year ? i helped 14 go to new owners to be saved by passing on details ect, thiose 14 came form just 4 racers who basicly saved the cars as 12 of em were given to em free so they could be raced by the owners who thought the cars beyond saving Add to that fact 50% (i recon easyly) of parts ceme from racers (for me it's 90% as an breaker of old fords) you'd soon be moaning when the S/H prices went through the roof cos of the lack of em as seen with the Mk1/2 escort and concidering how many of those went rallying rather than bangerd you cant blame the banger boys for that but do we get a "rallying is bad OK" thread? no why cos everyone like rallying so it's Ok to convert perfectly good cars to ram into a tree cos lets face it thats what made the escort whats it is today, rare and expensive P.S i like rallying boys too they pay good momey for old tat
Guest chriscapriman Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 i got my granny cos a banger racer had been to view it and called my mate telling him about it as it was too good to race plus lee337 has given me parts for mine, as have two other seperate banger lads

FredTransit Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 And how many graniies or other cars are raced BECAUSE they are rare? Two sided to everything as already said.

Nowadays you see quite afew of the rally people buy cars and decide to keep them or sell them on as they are too good to rally, and yes quite afew of the banger racers do this too, to which these people should be commended. The point I was trying to make is that alot of people think theres millions of 70's/early 80's Fords still about, but supplies of certain models and cars are drying up fast. There is interest in Granadas (particually MKI's which are fetching good money on ebay) but obviously Escorts and Cortinas have more of a following.
FredTransit Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 The major difference between rallying and bangering is rally cars may get damaged, it's not the object of the excersise, with the bangers they ain't coming back, no two ways about it.
mart @ fpe Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 the worse people are the ones that just pick cars up and weigh them straight in no 1 gets and use or parts out of it then
FredTransit Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 True but at least they do that for the money. Rightly or wrongly, they don't often see past next week, let alone what they could make on it by selling it or parts. But at least they are making a living, not just having a laugh.
82bob Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 People who race generally make a living as well as having a laugh me and my mates all race but we also love classic cars if we put the money up then how can people moan, a lot of our stuff comes off of ebay and if its good enough to restore we will and if not its time to kick the glass out!!
FredTransit Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Do they race professionally though? That's what I meant.
ilovegrannys Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I see on ebay a MK2 sell for £500, on the road etc. Ovalchat, a stripped out MK2 without a lump going for £450! It is getting silly now, i use to race when £50 a shell was enough! I know times change but hey, its madness!
caprinerd Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 i raced this mk1 capri before i found out it was a development car it was a jan 69 had genuin replacement front wings with no rot and i cut them, really wish id know what i had back then because i would have welded it all up still you live an learn
mk1super Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 What Pe*s me off about this same old gripe, nobody but nobody moans when a MK1 or MK2 Sort gets smashed up on a rally stage or round a circult. I do Then i get told to shut up I think them old granadas are cool as fook perfect for popping a massive V8 in and go drifting
mart @ fpe Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 a typical granada story http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=109081
rallyesport04 Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 i cant knock the oval boys my engine an some other bits an bobs come from a mate for who raced hotrods an got the bits for next to nothing as i was restoring he didnt strip many cars but hoarded loads of parts if it wasnt for him keeping all this stuff for racing it would have been scraped or thrown away years ago
bronze4door Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 i am going to get one and run it daily eventually
