mangler Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 What Pe*s me off about this same old gripe, nobody but nobody moans when a MK1 or MK2 Sort gets smashed up on a rally stage or round a circult. But say it's going on a Oval and all hells let loose Same with Cortina's MK3,MK4 & MK5's. In a few years time, maybe they'll say the same with Mondeo's. Oh we off today to the New Years Day Cracker at Birmingham Wheels,2.1ltr Bangers.
petrolhead Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I agree with Steve Peanut - someone needs to get their toys back in the pram
caprinerd Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I feel like crying when I hear of these old grannys going on the track. How can someone claim to love osfs and be a member of this site, and then turn round and trash old osfs on the track? most granadas are only good for scrap same as capris and cortinas they came out the showroom with rust in them, the real good ones are on the road and how do you think the spare parts keep going round . stick to what you know best and go polish your car There's no need to be rude no wonder he's rude with a name like cortinabully, I love these people that come on the site with very few posts then make arsey comments. I like a fair discussion on here, same as most people. Its just my opinion, and wether I agree with other people, I always respect other peoples opinions couldnt agree with you more steve, its comments like that that give a forum a bad name, and its not what this forum is about, a simple question is asked and others have replied to tell someone they are only good at polishing there car is rude an un-called for in my eyes

Somone congratulated me last week outside me yard for saving my latest classic, a Mk4 scort i was polishing I nearly pee'd meself and they got the right hump cos they thought i was taking the piss, till i took em in the garage and showed em the Mk3 cortina, oh how time marches on

mk3cokebottle Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 erm jay B591 YVW (sumo's old granny ) got raced
mk3cokebottle Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i have got a mk2 granada and i love it 2 bits, at the end of the day all the ones that are getting raced will only make our loved cars worth more money because their wont be that many left on the roads, but the down side 2 this is u will have 2 bolt your cars 2 the ground so that it dont get nicked, nicked by who
mk3cokebottle Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I wish I could afford to save the cars that get bangered. If they are too far gone to save I would prefer to see them parted out for spares than smashed on a track. I can understand cortinas and granadas being bangered in the 80s and early 90s when there were loads left. But these days there are so few left its such a shame to see people buying them to banger Ok yeh i see your point but where do you think all the cheap parts come from? 80% of racers i know sell parts on cheap, im allways in somones yard grabbing an A/C fan so a RS turdbo can keep its cool (same motor), or so a capri or cortina can rob some larger calipers, or for E/W, C/L, leccy mirrors to rebuild cortina ones, 2.8i front spoilers for cortina owners, the list goes on and on. Very very few racers are rich enough to not care and throw away parts, every month there somone on a forum somewhere offering parts cheap off a car they are gonna race and most of the time all they get is silence or abuse, rarely thanked for putting themselves out to help us "enthusiasts" Try making friends with some racers and open up a whole world of OSF breakers yards top play in, AND most of the time they are actually nice chaps a swell, double bonus eh Well said mate Don't want to annoy anyone, but I've got a Mk1 sat there waiting salloon or coupe ?? do ya wanna sell it i no some desperate for one at the moment
JAY PS Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 erm jay B591 YVW (sumo's old granny ) got raced Was at Deans just of A331 around a year and half ago ,tried to buy it but wouldnt let it go for less than £500 it wasnt worth that ,bits had been robbed and it was without MOT and needed loads ,failure sheet was in the car ! Shame but he wouldnt come down so i bought a much better car for less somewhere else He told hed race it anyway !
mk3cokebottle Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 yes mate that was billy in the spares yard , he bought it off paul who swapped it with sumo for the mk1 estate i live a stones throw away from woodsy's its a good place for osf parts usually has a few on the shelf
red-rum816 Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i have already had a banger boy i now very well say 2 me that he will nick my car when he aint got any granadas left, i dont like slagging off banger boys because i used 2 be 1 but u get good and bad banger boys.
lotusless Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i have already had a banger boy i now very well say 2 me that he will nick my car when he aint got any granadas left, i dont like slagging off banger boys because i used 2 be 1 but u get good and bad banger boys. nice
Guest chriscapriman Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 And lets not forget CHEAP no fooker can afford to run one on the road i can praise the pinto, not a v6 in sight even used it as a daily for a few months, makes a good car for a spark with its big boot, comfy ride and ability to glide over speedbumnps
Mk 1 Mark Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Mate of mine, Paul Sammit has 4 x Mk1 Grannys ( 1 Coupe) and 3 mk2 Granny`s 1 is an Estate. . He is a well known seasoned Banger racer ( Bad Company )and won some big races back in the day All of these will be used as bangers, and he will not part with them
caprinerd Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 looks like a scene from the sweeney earlier on in the thread some one said about the mk3 granny being soft i race one in the earthshaker3 in 2000 at swaffham i raced it all day and in the last race which turned in to a dd (not that i got to do the dd) i got T boned by a bluesboy and put to sleep in the thing the passenger door came through and smashed my left elbow the cage didnt bend but the car ripped and bent round it, would i race another one, never, would i race another mk2 yes with out a dought even if it was a total rot box id favour it over the mk3 anyday
mk3cokebottle Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 starting to see quite a few mk3's on the spedworth tracks i suppose it depends on how much you value your life to wether you race one or not they bend in all the wrong places lol
caprinerd Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 spedeworth dont race as hard as tsr and tsr aint as hard as smallfields would never take the mk3 out at smallfields you`d be asking for trouble bad enough at tsr tracks,
mk3cokebottle Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 that bank would hurt in a mk3 if got round the first bend to find out
FredTransit Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 OK here we go again. I am currently cutting up a Mk2 transit. It is not fit enough for the road, but would be sound enough for the track. No way would I banger it, or allow it to be bangered. Here's why. Engine and box - diesel conversion on a Mk2 transit front axle - disc conversion on a Mk1 Rear axle - spare. windscreen into my ambulance OK you say, those bits may have survived or be surplus to use on the track. Now tell me any of you out there will use it after Scuttle - went into a very early Mk1 Front roof and dash - went into a Mk2 crewcab Passenger side gutter section - into another Mk2 Interior (not seats, they were shagged) went into my SWB Also spares you just don't get every day Lock set (including ignition barrel) Doors Steering column Servo and brake master. Tailgate and (cut out) mechanism - spares or convert a barn door to tailgate I make that 8 vans on the road still, none of which would be possible if it had gone round the oval. THAT'S why I get pissed off about banger racing. It's the shear waste of it. Oh, if anybody does want to banger what's left, be my guest. As for rushing out and 'saving' the cars that are destined for the track, I only need to win the lottery and watch me. There really will be nothing left to banger if I do, I will have the lot and break or resto them.
