i got woken up at 7.45 this morning by my nextdoor neighbour. the git is doing some building work(stripping walls back to brick). his builder mate and him started hammering on the adjoinig wall. well i lost it after a heavy night. i jumped over the garden fence, in me dressing gown, beard all over the place, hammered on his back door and proceeded to let the threats and insults fly. proper lost it. needless to say he shit himself and went rather white. is it just me or does anyone else think i was right to do so? felt good at the time. couldnt get back to sleep though. great start to the year a?

In the eyes of the law he's doing nothing wrong. Sure its probably not the best idea with most people having a good drink for New Years Eve, but, he's done nothing wrong.

Between 6am and 11pm it's fine to make 'resonable' noise.

He could have phoned the police about your reaction however.

It's one reason my next house will be detatched, as every so often you feel like you're living the life of the person in the house next door!

yeah right out of order lol, but i kinda dont give a ****. the police would have got the same if he phoned them. my mrs is the only 1 that can get away with wakeing me up. im horrible when woke. gotta say he did ask my mrs a bit later if i had calmed down so he could appologise. hes just trying to get it finished & i do understand that. ive put up with it for 14 weeks so far, sometimes till midnight gone but newyears day, i aint having that.

couldnt find my brush kev.:lol:

i used to work on carparks and roofs (structural waterproofing) and we werent allowed to make any noise until gone 8am and personally i probably would ave reacted angrily also as most peeps are out till late on new years eve and sometimes all people ave to do to get on with neighbours is to give a little bit of consideration!!!!!!

I was told by the noise officer that you can make `resonable` noise between 8 am and 9 pm , eny time before that or after ,you where concidered to be a nuiseance.

I was wrong.

A: The Noise Act 1996 states that the hours of “night” are 11pm to 7am so technically loud music from a party should be turned off, or at the very least down at 11pm.

I knew it was 11pm but I thought it was 6 am, oops.

i stayed in on new years because i couldnt get a baby sitter, so new year passes and bout 3am me and the mrs go to bed..... 5 mins later my next door neighbour gets in with bout 20 mate screaming , shouting and playing loud music  i thought i'll give them the chance to calm down a bit. anyway at 5.30am i thought thats enough so i gave it the 999, i told the opperator that they were being rowdy and playing loud music, the opperator told me there was nothing they could do about loud music she said there's no way she could help me and i'll have to report it to the council, i said wtf how do i ring the council at 5.30 am . so anyway i put the phone down and rang 999 again this time saying that they were argueing screaming and shouting and slamming doors (which they were) anyway the operator was very nice and said ok no problem we'll have an officer streight there. the coppers turned up and 10 mins later the misic went off and they piped down. why could the first operator have not sent officers  surely loud music in the early hours with a baby next door is some kind of public order offense

anyway rant over

I'm sorry but that you seriously need to think about this statement:

"999 should only be used when there is threat to life or property."

...Not if next doors being a bit loud.

Why didnt you go next door, confront him (being nice) and take it from there?

Don't take the above in the wrong way but the 999 feature we use in the UK isnt a 'help group' to solve all problems.

would you confront a house full of lads out of thier faces on drugs at 5.30 in the morning i dont King think so ..... public order is a criminal offense wether it be on the streets or in a house. so i think i was perfectly within my rights to ring the police that i pay my taxes to support :P:P:P

would it have been an emergency if i had've confronted them and got beaten up and left for dead in the street.

OR if i'dve sent the mrs round they'd have to have sent a fleet of ambulances to clear up the carnage

im not bitching or being a c**t

No, obviously I wouldnt do that. I'd probably confront the home owner in the morning and if this was a one off (and he was semi human!), leave it at that. If not, report it to the council/move house.

I see your point and agree with what you're saying partly. I wasnt there it must have been quite bad for you to phone the police regarding the noise.

If you think that would have happend, I would move house dude, thats no place to bring up a small kid.

im not bitching or being a c**t

No I know, I feel sorry for people that have shit people living next to them. It's all about treating everyone else how you'd want to be treated yourself. I hope things quieten down for you mate.

All the best,

We were out front on new year's day with angel grinders cutting up a transit, but we didn't start at 7am!

There should be a 24 hour number for noise nuisance, it's a matter for environmental health and they are open all hours, this being one of the reasons. The police should know about this and should have told you.

hontstly jon it sucks mate we have lived in our house for nearly 3 years and we live in a semi, the old neighbours were polish and they were good as gold, consedirate helpfull and just generally neighbourly. they moved out and about a year ago the new lot moved in, well its a single parent doris with 2 kids of about 3 and 5 years, both of the kids are from different fathers which she shares the kids with and she is now with another bloke, even when the kids are there she still has people round till the early hours being rowdy,

im fed up of going round to tell them to shut up now so ive given up, its so bad that its causing tention between me and my mrs and its even affecting my sons sleep patterns because she puts her kids to bed at 6.30 pm so she can start getting mates round which means they are up by 6.00 am running round screaming while she stays in bed

im at my wits end with it all and dont really know where to go next.....

i've started writing down when the noise is happening and what kind of nose it is but it makes me feel like a right interfeering fairy and i would hate for someone to be made homeless with 2 young kids because of my doing.

anyone got any suggestions?

BAZ

Our neighbours reported us to our council because we woke her 18 year old son up at 9.30am on a Thursday morning as he was tired and was trying to have a nap  I said he should try going to bed earlier rather than staying round his girl friends until the early hours
