OK, Scenario......I am a car salesman working for a large multi-franchise dealership in Birmingham..I take a phone call from an Asian doris in London  , enquiring about a car up for sale for £13495.

Customer;. 'Will you accept my offer of £8000 plus my Vectra 2.2 2001 'y' reg. (in broken english.

Me; No, we are too far away from having a deal

Her; What do you mean? Ring me back when you have accepted my offer...

I dont even bother wasting my time ringing her back..

Next day...

Her; Rang you yesterday, are you accepting my offer?

Me; No...

Her; Why not?

Me; Because you are saying that you want in theory £5500 for a 10 yr old Vectra..

Her; £8000 plus my Vectra..(in broken english still)

Me; No, its not going to happen.

Her; OK, £9000 plus my Vectra

Me.; Getting totally pissed off, and with genuine people looking at cars on the pitch, puts the phone down.

She rings back...Why will you not accept my offer

Me; Because you are no-where near having a deal, you are in London, and want me to value your car that i hav'nt seen and you want £4500 for a car worth £1000.

Her; No, i am offering £9000 plus my Vectra

By now, i am getting really fooked off...

Me; No,

Her; Let me put my husband on.

Me, No, i havn't got time for this, i'm busy

Her; Your busy??

Me; Yes, i am trying to earn a living and keep a roof over my head, drive up from London, bring your car and have a look at ours.

Her; No i'm not driving a long way.

FFS !!

Me; puts phone down again

Her; She now rings back and complains to switchboard that i am rude and i have just lost a sale!!!!

AAAAGGGGHHHH......FOOK OFF....

Anybody else work in retail and dealt with thick stupid customers??

Every day we have people asking for tyres, we dont sell tyres, next door do. the firm with the BIG sign that says 'THE TYRE STOP'

How many times you been asked to pop next to get them a price tho!

also had people keep ringing you saying that a competitor has undercut you by a fiver to see if your going to undercut them by £5 as well, they then play telephone tennis using you both as leverage to screw you to the wall to hang out to dry to save them a couple quid! they then want you to come all the way to them the same day and moan like fook because your 5 mins late and dont even offer you a cup of tea!

Had one guy who tried this so after 2 hrs of phone calls in the end i said to him heres the deal of the century and it wont be repeated,

"IF YOU CAN GET HERE IN NEXT 10 MINES I WILL FIT IT STRAIGHT AWAY FOR "FREE" AND GIVE YOU £50 CASH BACK AND SEND THE BOY OUT TO GET YOU FISH AND CHIPS WHILE YOU WAIT ON US" WOULD THAT PLEASE YOU?

For some reason they think your taking the piss cos they are at work and cant get there and then complain to head office!

Bet that sounds familiar

lol, i work at tescos while i'm at college, and you get total idiots asking about things.

they ask do you know if its any good. like i test each product tescos sell.

can you tell me where the dvds are, er there in the same aisle as we are in.

and when people move the label from something cheap to somethign expensive then complain the labels are wrong, excuse me i found this TV and the label says £1.99 so i want it for that price, when the label clearly says 10 pack of pens or something.

or its the age old trick, excuse me, this box is slightly crinked in the corner can i get 30% off? no uve just done that and u'll throw the box away once your home.

there idiots everywhere, the womans vectra wil almost certainly be a shed, tell her to sell it for £4500 private then do a deal with you.

Ha Ha, some classics there.

The other thing that pisses me off....I walk around a showroom and used car pitch all day, in a daft looking company suit type uniform with a name tag on my lapel with the name of the garage in 1 inch tall letters across my pocket on my jacket, and some twonka will walk up to me and say 'do you work here?'

WTF, no i just thought i looked rather trendy and cool dressed like a total dork and i like spending my spare time walking around car showrooms!!! Jeeesus...

And....I have just done a 10 hour day, for 6 days on the trot, its Sunday evening at 5 minutes to 5pm, all the cars have been brought in off the front service road, locked up, keys locked away, and some fooker who has had all fookin week and weekend to look at cars walks in..... For fooks sake, are we not allowed a life??

And to top it off, you can guarantee the tossers who normally do this are obviously RETIRED!!

I work in a shop too and it all sounds very fimiliar. "What's the best price you can do for cash?" is the most common one, but we don't do cash deals. I ask them if they say that at Tesco, or petrol station, or at the pub. Why do they think they can do it in my shop then?

Label swapping is another favourite. It can be done as our shop prices are all handwritten on labels from a price book, but we recognise a £350 item coming along with a £30 label on it. They should at least make it close.

biggest one that bugs me,

I fit loft insulation, our surveyors measure the depth of any existing insulation, and we top it up to 270mm, so if theres 100 in the loft, we fit 170 over the top. Get this over and over

customer"are you going to remove my old insulation and fit 2 new layers"

me "no, I dont do that. just top it up to the right level"

C"but I want it removed, I want 2 new layers"

me" read our company sheet, no4 says - old insulation is left in place and topped up"

C"well I want 2 new layers"

me"phone our office, its not my job to do that"

customer then rings office, person tells him theres no point in removing something to replace it with something exactly the same.

i get it all day people phone up for tyres, i know most people don't know the size but its when they don't know what car they drive that get me, then don't under stand why i can't give them a price for a tyre to fit a red car

the other one that gets me is when you give them a price then you get 'i only paid £20 last time for a £100 tyre'

Yes yes, some customers are thick.....................but not all and the reverse is true just as often.

If I had a penny every time some over confident tradesman, salesman, etc etc assumed I was thick and knew nothing about what they were trying to sell me, I'd be a rich man. Needless to say it's the ones that don't make foolish assumptions that get my business
