Retromotorsport Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Tim, you got any pics of that Historic Mk1 that went end over end a few years back.. The minimum that a bolt in cage has to take is 5 times the cars weight plus 75kg and some areas 7 times plus 75kg ... Thats a 5G minimum crash, you black around 5G. As for 30mph... hmmm This is a minimum of 70mph ... and the car is chucked onto dampish grass (which has zero grip) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9nxuyA-qFM If anything, i'd say the throttle stuck wide open ... That Mk1 only has a bolt in cage, and was ready for the next race in 2 hours, the full repairs took a day, a bit of floor, a new sill, some bashing on the 1/4 and A and B pillar tugs, the a pillar was approx 5mm back, the B pillar was 40mm in..and the cage stoped it going any further. Anyway, good luck with it, and lesson learned.. dont drive till the insurance is fully sorted, ie agreed values agreed

Retromotorsport Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 guess you mean this onehttp://www.youtube.com/user/signatureTi ... rXz8JjFh0Y Thats the one Tim, just shows what a simple bolt in cage can do.. they walked away from that crash
petrolhead Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 WOW! 30mph! If you were travelling at 30mph when you started to lose control you probably would have scrubbed off some speed to 25mph or less before impact which makes the damage even more shocking. Sorry to see the car in such a state. Did you see if all the axle was secure in place after the accident? I have never heard of anything like that. As said before, just claim from the insurance, that is what you pay your premium for.
MetalDave Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 savage mate, you must be gutted. Hope you manage to get it fixed or at least get the money to buy a decent replacement.
samurai Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 Tramp arm brakets broke off the axle on the drivers side but the arms are ok. Yep it slowed right down as the car was about to hit the tree side on as it was very soft impact.
samurai Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 Nice guy on the phone of the insurance company, sent him some pictures, and he said just get the quote and can start rebuilding.
