Mick The Cabbie Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I recieved this email today. Have a read and see what ya think. If ya agree, just copy and paste it into an email & fire it off Subject: FW: Petrol Prices = must read The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil companies have simply jacked their prices up and the government will not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase. See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it, we are hitting 114.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1.50 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of ESSO and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 90p a LITRE. It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.. Boycott BP and ESSO.
GJUK Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 BP give me nectar points, so with my fuel card through work I get, free fuel and nectar points. Win win. I paid £1.24 for diesel today, yay. On a more serious note, you need the haulage industry behind these kinds of movements. Remember the road blocks... It's only going to get worse anyway, the goverment want less cars on the road and I kind of agree with them. If they can price the kind of people who ruin driving off the road (ie those who drive without insurance, maintaining their car (bald tyres etc etc)) then higher fuel prices could be a good thing in part, a very small part but a part none the less. As things get more and more expensive I guess you have to start charging more and more to make the difference . Sucks mate as I know you're a cabby and I'm sure you spend a few pennies on fuel. Jon
zetecmk2 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 petrol prices are going up out of proportion with inflation, up to 35% in some places!! hmmm........
escortmad79 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 The one in town has gone up again today!! 122.9 for petrol! All it would take would be for the supermarkets to start a price war to get them down to a sensible level again!
Stu_B Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Oil is the cheapest it's been since 2000. It's all TAX!
FredTransit Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Oil is the cheapest it's been since 2000. It's all TAX! CORRECT! Sadly I don't think these schemes will be taken up or work, and as usual we will just take it. I think I will just stick to using the free veg oil.....
livewire7116 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 yeah but Esso is cheapest by upto 4p a litre cheaper than others where i am
FredTransit Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 thats it Fred - Positive mental attitude!! Please tell me than, have any of these schemes ever worked?
Grizzley Dell Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 its the goverment we all need to tackle as its tax thats most of fuel costs. all these stupid schemes are aimed at the oil companies. viv la revolution. bring back guy fawkes. or can someone lend me 40 barrels of black powder. i'll bloody do it.. sorry if BLACK powder isnt P.C. but hairy spheres to it...
GJUK Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Imagine this if you will. All fuel is suddenly £5 per litre. You need to get to work. You have a car you need to put petrol in So, you fill up. After this you look at the costs of alternative travel such as bus/train/scooter/walking (which they're not taxed yet). In 30 or so years the oil industry bubble will burst I think, demand will drop. As the prices get higher and highers, demand will drop. People have already been priced out of running cars.
Stu_B Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I get the bus to work. It takes the same amount of time & costs less than the fuel & car parking costs. Plus I get to chat to college girls
bortaf Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 thats it Fred - Positive mental attitude!! Please tell me than, have any of these schemes ever worked? Nope, the only thing that does work is these never ending crap emails fill up my bloody inbox, that works to wind me up, does that count ? give it a week and there will be another bloody petition on the gov web site closely followed by loads of bloody posts telling us how we need to sign this new one in Just face it, the country if broke big time and we the motorist as allways is going to bear the brunt of the taxes that rake in the cash to change that situation, accept it then work around it, you know like LPG or cooking oil? the 2 leagal ways the gov has given us to "opt out" but that no-one seems to wan to use
pauln Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Oil is the cheapest it's been since 2000. It's all TAX! I would have said the price of petrol/diesel breaks down into 3 parts, raw materials & refining, oil company & retailer profit and of course tax. So if the cost of raw materials goes down and the price stays the same the oil company must be making extra profit, and we suffer because of the VAT element on that (the tax part remaining the same).

There's 2 taxes on fuel VAT (which went up recently) and fuel duty which goes up many times a year
dannyb Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 i dont think we can do much to change it when the time comes and i need to replace the family car i will looking at lpg converted cars.
BIGKEV Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 thats the spirit people, there is no hope for any of us..... well done.
bortaf Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 thats the spirit people, there is no hope for any of us..... well done. And i spose these endless emails and constant posts will do something ? over the last 8 years i've seen these posts and emails clogging up forums and inboxes and what exactly has it acheived ? (appart from pissing me off that is obv), exactly, fook all. stop whining get on with it and work out away AROUND the system cos going head to head with it will get you feck all unless of course it goes all the way and we have a revolution and what if we do? who pays the bills then, i tell you who the biggest selling product in the world will, oh hang on that's petrol. I'm not lazy, i'm a realist, i pay 90p per litre for 80% of my fuel, how you may ask, well you should read propperly i've alreadyy told you all, oh no rob but that meens we need to convert to older diesels and go shopping for oil in Makro (oh and that's harder than a revolution is it), or mayby the thought of spending a weekend fitting LPG is too mutch? well thats is just lazy, my kit cost me £300 spread over the 3 months it took me to find it all, lost boot space now that really is a cr@p excuse The trouble is nowdays it's allways somone elses fault, it's allways somone else who has to do something about it, well i do for me what needs doing simples. Face it this country is fooked, the world is on the brink of being fooked and we're all moaning cos we have to spend £20 a week more to be a lazy arse and drive to work or the shops, now i'm happy to admit i'm one of those lazy fookers who wont get a bus or buy a bike but at least i'll willing to pay the price to do what i want and do it my way Ahhh that's better
