:x:evil: Im completley fooked off.

I started an apprenticeship (that i went to the interview for - over 2 months ago). anywho last week they phoned me. next day i had a 2nd interview. I started yesterday "woohoo!" or so i thought.. Was told today by my mentor "your struggling now to fit a car tyre! wait until you fit commercial!"

Not the fact that the interview, you will be working as a fast fit tech eg brakes exhausts n servicing n changing car tyres etc" - he says now"yes i told you you would be fitting comercial tires"! I have a huge fear of these bastard tyres there half my size and are nearly as wide as me and i cant even lift the fookers up! also he said"2-3 months from now you, then apprentice will be fitting truck tyres!" LIKE WTF!

I generally have a stupidly high fear of fitting tyres that size, come to mention it, i dont even like fitting car or van tyres.

What you reckon?

Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth

im sure you wount be left lone and will be supervised so nothing goes wrong

Yeah it's like anything, there's always a bit of fear of the unknown. Once you've done a few you'll wonder what you were ever worried about

I was fitting commercial tyres and JCB / tractor tyres for a saturday job when I was 14.....................and it was all manual equipment then, manual bead breaker and tyre levers. With today's machinery it's a cinch mate so I wouldn't worry about it.

i see what your saying but the sheer size of the fooking tyres are beyond my lifting capabilites, as for working alone, yes i will.... at the minute im not alowed to work alone, all watching n listening 2-3 months from now you'll be fiting commercial? well WTF "if i knew you wanted me to fit that size tire i would have said no point blank!" which i know hahaha is going to be coming from many in this thread but. i generally just have a stupidly scared fear of even thinking (nightmare's about fittin them) and as for low profile tires... well im begining to think im in the wrong job... after today seeing a guy covered in blood screaming his head off then being told"he was breaking the bead on a low profile audi wheel when it caught and smashed the alloy and splints had it him in the face"....... im not only pissed off... "drama queen" but... im really having shit thoughts and stupid thoughts.. after tonights convo with my parents....

well.. actually.. this is describing my thoughts! so please dont laugh as im being serious...

Dystychiphobia- Fear of accidents.

Hypengyophobia or Hypegiaphobia- Fear of responsibility.

Iatrophobia- Fear of going to the doctor or of doctors.

ALSO dentophobia

and the fear of needles or pointed objects

not so much this one Ligyrophobia- Fear of loud noises although it does make me jump and set me scared. like when poping the bead back onto any wheel....

most deffinatley this!! Nosocomephobia- Fear of hospitals. along with Odontophobia- Fear of teeth or dental surgery.

Fear of situations... that actually fits the bill! Topophobia- Fear of certain places or situations, such as stage fright ,tire fitting, scared already been shown how to do it properly, still going to be shit scared anyway! scared of me even being in that situation(back in 1st post) like a nightmare even thinking about it...

yup

Trypanophobia- Fear of injections

but... in sight of that link (even though it was meant as a joke i know i had a few phobia's about certain things but when you read "FEAR OF...." well... turns out im actually scared about a few things like needles, like hospitals, dentists, dental shit, being a situation that i know i didnt want to be in.....

I know it may seem like a laugh or joke. but im actually wishing now that id actually never been put on this earth to begin with.. i fear the things above... i get an arse kicking because something scares the living shit out of me... like today being told il be doing what i fear most about the motor industry.... life just keeps getting from bad to worse...

feel like i just want to ball me King eyes out... isnt usually like me at all.. but the way im feeling i could do worse

I think most commercial stuff is still done manually, it certainly is in our workshop.

The first job the apprentice boy does in our workshop is fit truck tyres because its easy and its all they can be trusted to do without supervision.

It really is quite easy, try it, you might like it

as said mate once you've done a couple then its a piece of pi$$, just think of commercial tyres as bigger slightly tougher car tyres, there's nothing to be worried about, just dont get covered in tyre soap as your popping it onto the bead, it gets effing everywhere if you use too much :thumbsup:

Rob stick at it listen to what the guys tell you take your time and be safe , then you will find that you just get on with the job . when i was an apprentice the amount of things i did that i thought would be out of my comfort zone was actually very pleasing to do and you feel a sense of achievement that not only are you learning a skill you overcome your fears to  heights and confined spaces for me now i inspect tower cranes , steam boilers etc

haha well... ive given it some thought.. what im going to do tomorow when i got to work is ask when they get another comercial tire to do if i can watch how they do it.. they did say i wont be doing it for a few months yet.. but... would be nice to see how they do it where i work.. :D

Thanks Guys! your a huge boost in my confidence :D

:D

cheers Rob :thumbsup::ykt:

Commercials r OK! have you had to do a run flat yet? like on a BMW X5 cos that'll piss u off

Yeah low profile's and run flats are a pain, even worse if u dont have a good machine!

Er, why did you go for a job fitting tyres with a list of phobias like that? Sorry mate but what exactly did you think you would be doing with the tyres? OK so you said you were not told about the commercial tyres, but then you say you are not really happy with fitting car tyres.

Im getting the impression that you "over think" on things ..just go along with the flow of things rather than presuming you wont like something before you have even tried it

You are only young ..bth i think you need to stop being so negative and think positive :)

if u want to stand your ground, draw ur employers attention to hasawa 1974 ,in it it gives guidelines on lifting operations.average build person should lift nowt heavier than 25 kgs .as its a new job id tread carefully in case they aint pullin your leg hth :)

Have you let them know your not comftable with it, they should do somthing about it like assist you (they might take the piss a little mind, just do it back), the pop is quite loud (but not deafaning) and it makes me jump in college, but its over in a flash, you could keep a pair of ear plugs in your pocket if your realy bothered about it, moving tyres and wheels around ain't too bad, they can roll, if your struggling with lifting them then get help, there not allowed to make you lift somthing that cause injury, good luck with it
