I have today!!

Thought I'd have a quick go at fixing a blow in a join on my exhaust on my escort today.

I jacked it up and put it on ramps took the centre section out, cleaned it up put some firegasket stuff on the pipe slid it back in and tightened up the clamps.

Then I warmed it up with a hot air gun to dry it off then I started up the car. Then I realised the manifold was now blowing :x

took the maniflod off and all but one of the bloody studs come out of the head :x didn't think much too it and put gaskets seal on the gaskets and went to refit the manifold and it didn't line up very well with the holes so I had to get the nuts off the studs , fitt the studs then clean the (now dried) firegum off the gaskets and head and exhaust re do it and fit the manifold.

Took it our for a drive and the fecking tailpipe was tapping the anti rollbar on the rear axle,

back on the wheel ramps.... Loosened the clamp and tried to twist the tailpipe .. Wasn't easy because of the seal :x

when it finally budged it tightened the clamp and put car back on the ground. But now my centre pipe is lower than normal to the ground and it scrapes on speedbumps.. And now I've just realised that one of the manifold gaskets is fooked and blowing in the layers so I basically need to get new gaskets and start again next weekend!

I wish I just left it alone I'm going to battlesbridge tomorrow and I'm gonna have to cope with a blowing gasket and a dragging exhaust!

Such a simple job yet I wasn't in the write frame of mind and Ive taken one step forward and four back!!!!

I'm going so battlesbridge

That exhaust assembly paste is waste of time, problem is when it get warmed up it drys out and eventually crumbles and exhaust blows again, i use tiger seal on the gaskets and joints, works spot on and is more than capable of taking the heat even on the manifold to head gaskets

Clear silicone bath sealer is good for exhaust joints as it has no colour pigment in it so it can withstand the heat from the exhaust without burning.

It also remains flexible and is easier to remove :thumbsup:
