capri.kid87 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 OK so Just getting ideas at this point but I thinking maybe next year year and half's time I'm going to be looking o get my next ride it seem logical in money terms. I want either a Mk1 or 2 escort estate but I want it a little different. If I were to bubble / tarmac arche it depending on model would I need to do any mods to the interior arches at the rear?? Also watts linkage and a 4 link kit with uprated shocks how much of a mod would that be for an estate?? I'm only looking at running a "just better than standard" 2 litre pinto and using it for my daily. All thoughts, tech and pics welcome.
442 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Classic Ford or Retro Ford Mag featured a bubble arched mk1 estate in gold i think few months back, unsure who built it they may be a member! may say in there what was done to the rear wheel archs. See if i can dig out issue no 4 ya.
capri.kid87 Posted July 9, 2010 Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 Cheers man that would be useful to have some info on what has been done.
bomber1 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 would be the same as vista's van in retro's room on here
capri.kid87 Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 Do u know wot the subject is ccaled or have a link to it?
bomber1 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 here you go http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... sc&start=0
rallyesport04 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 6 link for a warmed pinto seems excessive unless you have some serious power lined up for the future good luck with the project
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 eventually I would like bigger than pinto up front and jus figure might be easier to do the work now and have the pino than jus do wots needed then when I want bigger have to do it all then. but at the mo I haven't even found the estate yet which is a key part to this project
Admin Vista Posted July 13, 2010 Admin Report Posted July 13, 2010 at the mo I haven't even found the estate yet which is a key part to this project how about this one? http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=116523
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Just a quick one would any be able to answer this, how likely is that that I would be able to get the rear seats to fit an work still with the linkage boxs and new inner arches and turrets? Also any one know of a good Mk1 or 2 escort estate for sale?

Also any one know of a good Mk1 or 2 escort estate for sale? Highly unlikely I'd say if you're tubbing it as they will extend into where the seat goes. I have seen it done with just turrets but never tubs As for an estate for sale, look at the link I posted earlier
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Cheers, yeah spoke to already actualy, its got no engine I would prefer one that untill ready to start i could drive as gotta get rid of my capri to to do this. I've never changed an engine how fast could a pinto and box be put in so i could be used??
Admin Vista Posted July 13, 2010 Admin Report Posted July 13, 2010 Cheers, yeah spoke to already actualy, its got no engine I would prefer one that untill ready to start i could drive as gotta get rid of my capri to to do this. I've never changed an engine how fast could a pinto and box be put in so i could be used?? Normally in a day or so but Savvi's car has been altered for that Toyota diesel lump so I don't know what's involved in that. I can say however that buying a rust free car that needs an engine swap will be an easier, cheaper and shorter job than buying a rusty car that needs panel work.
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Yeah I get that my first escort took me and dad 3 years and he re built most of th pannles as was a pannle beater. I'm hoping I'll find one with a good body tht needs an engine change, would love to find one with a good body and a pinto already in. Going back to what u said earlier about tubbing the inner, is it something and with bubble arches isn't needed?
Admin Vista Posted July 13, 2010 Admin Report Posted July 13, 2010 You're not really asking the right man for suspension and body mods. I left mine to Gary (retromotorsport).
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 OK all might have a possible car BUT how much work is intailed to change from a 1.3 over to 2 litre pinto and does it need a different box??? and what other bits would need to be changed?
2litreScapri Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Change the whole lot Ant - 1.3 is XFlow so flog that on complete & use everything, which means you'll also need a type 9 if you go 5 speed
capri.kid87 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Cheers for the words u wolly I knew that bit (kinda) but the rest behind the gearbox would I need to change prop and rear axle???
2litreScapri Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Talk later but assume yes would think so
mk1mexico Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 All the info you need can be found using the search button at the top, this conversion must have been covered 1000 times on this forum alone.
