in a car , the reason i got a summons was because i dint have my license or insurance to hand as i have traders , so he basically read me the riot act n sent me on my way with a 7 day wonder and said that they would send me a court summons if they want me to appear or just send me the out come in post , nice fella though and he did say its very unlikley that i will get banned and just have a fine n points but even then i didnt really want those lol

but i geuss i have learnt my lesson now

Tut tut, smacky wristies, we've all been there (well the speed, not the getting caught bit). 6 months and counting now, they have 6 months to give you a court date, though I doubt at 20 over the limit you will get away with it.

You will probably get away with a fixed penalty £60 and 3 points it is only when you are going 25mph over the posted limit you go to court (knowledge from past experiance) and if you were going 30mph or more over the posted limit you might get a ban  thats unless unless you are a footballer then you can drive at what ever speed you like and blame it on the press chasing you

actually the police have 6 months to pass the case over to the courts they can take a fair bit longer to give you a summons

I am pretty sure they have to notify you of the court date within 6 months, that is give you the date, the date itself doesn't have to be within 6 months. That's definitely the case with other driving offences I have had any experience of, maybe somebody could clarify this about speeding?

I got pulled on the 5th May 07 and produced.

Got summoned on the 26th Nov 07.

And was given 6 points £250 fine for incorrect insurance.

It was 6 months and 21 days between the offence and receiving the letter.

A mate of mine was pulled for no insurance (he did have, a trader's policy). Got the thing back, thought it was done with, 5 months and 27 days later, court summons. Only days before (I think) it's too late to summons him. Can anybody clear this one up? He got off BTW, took the policy to court and didn't even get into the court room, what a waste of time!

shame you didnt have your docs on you m8 you would defo only of had the 3 points,if it goes to court you wont get more than 6points for sure,no way a ban.a friend of mine has just been banned for 2 years after getting caught doing 167 mph

ask to see the calibration certificate for the equipment he caught you on as its ment to be calibrated each day and most plod don't bother so its a loop hole if your lucky and ask the question

hhmm will do cheers mate

is it me or do traffic cops always come in the same flavour ,

you have one officer who is a good laugh and just a normal bloke then you get the little stuck uni leaver who just joined the forces who thinks he is gods gift

just asking as whenever i get pulled over its seems you get a mini hitler about 25 yrs old who thinks he is the dogs bollox then you get a middle age fella who is honest and just does his job along with having a giggle who will shake ya hand as ya leave and tells you to be careful

make sure you ask for a Copy (both sides) of the calibration certificate and

Details of the training (copy of certificate if there is one) given to the officer in the use of the PARTICULAR device and a Full copy of the Instruction manual for the device used if they cant supply all this they have no case

you will be lucky if you just get a 60 quid fine, i got tugged by traffic for 90 in a 70 (dual carridgeway) and got 3 points and 400 odd quid fine as its means tested. I leater learnt that evertyon lies on their means testing form - i ddint (what a mug).

what topped it off for me was that the lad in the dock before me was being done for assult in a pub (smaked the shite out of some other fella when he was p!ssed) and walked away laughing with a 60 quid fine and some 10 quid a week payment plan. Now thats justice.

still it all tops up the poor hard done by coppers pension schemes no doubt...
