Atlas axle help

Hi any one know if there has been a how to guide on shortning an atlas axle, anyone done it whats envolved.

What length are you after mate?

 

Its the shafts that are the difficult part. A few people have shortened casings themselves though.

 

you can drill out the spot welds in the pigs head i believe and pull the tube out, cut it to the length you need and re-fit into the pigs head.

 

Not something i'd like to do as you'll need to jig it so that when you put the tubes back, the angle of the pigs head is the same in relation to the flanges etc.

 

Best speak to Fostek or Gartrac mate.

Well i think im gonna want a baby one its to go under a cortina so no big arches and want to get as wide rims as poisable but i need to have a good measure up, yer im thinking its not an easy job to do right RD are now doing axles and parts but not sure of quality.

Ive got an atlas under my mk1 cortina, fostek did mine. Not cheap but the quality of the welds and brackets are superb! They made mine 1 inch shorter than the standard axle to house 7-8j wheels

my mate has a 47" atlas under his mk2 escort, can run 8s with standard arches, he used quaife 2 piece shafts cut down to required length, all home made and works fine

Yeah, would love to see the quality of the Atlas stuff that rally design have had re-made..................

 

Prices are ok too, but you often get what you pay for!
