ratman Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I had 17's on mine and it got slaged off every where i went and on here Its your car you may say it wont get to ya but it dose I went to 15's and then tback to 13's with a 185/60/13 tire what was a nats cocks smaller that the 17's with the rubber band tire so I kept the same diff ratio
xrt_si Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Puddy has just put the final nail in the coffin for me wanting to go 13's. Defo 15's now i think! They look good on them:
jamie956 Posted October 6, 2010 Author Report Posted October 6, 2010 I think im heading towards 15's now the only thing that was putting me off before was tyres or the lack off, but ive now managed to find some Avons i like, its a hard call to make i tried 13's and 15's on my dads estate and the 15's won hands down.
v8cortina Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Here is the MK2 with 8 x 15s. The 9 x 18s alongside. The 9 x 18s in place just to show you. Too big if you ask me, also the style is wrong but it should give you an idea. Sorry the pics are a bit late in coming
BaileyMex Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 I had 17's on mine and it got slaged off every where i went and on here Steve, I don't think it was necessarily the actual size, I think it was the fact they looked a bit to modern with no dish, I do think your looks much better rollin on what its on now tho
jamie956 Posted October 24, 2010 Author Report Posted October 24, 2010 Cheers for doing that Yer your right the 15's do look better, but i still think if you could get it sitting right and with the right wheels 18's could work.
MinesGT Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Here is the MK2 with 8 x 15s. The 9 x 18s alongside. The 9 x 18s in place just to show you. Too big if you ask me, also the style is wrong but it should give you an idea. Sorry the pics are a bit late in coming I think that looks spot on! For me its not so much the diameter itself, but it is how it is combined with the stance/ride height. The 18's look massive off the car, but when fitted, and the car lowered, they look right. Having said all that, there may be other issues like steering (previously mentioned) with bigger rims. Not easy.
down2earth Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Might be worth having a look on modifiedcars.com, there is a pic of a white 'Modified Ford Cortina Mk2 1968' with 17's on the front and 18's on the rear (Lenso Eagle rims i think), do a search to find it (Ford - Cortina) and you may want to put the pic up on this thread for reference. Agree that 17's fit but will depend on arch dimension and offset for the rim width, the rims on my Mk2 cortina do with spacer's + a few mods and if its just the look your after they suit the mk2 cortina arch line very well especially when lowered unlike some other classic fords where bigger wheels can look out of place it just depends on what your happy with at the end of the day as its not oldskool and probably not ideal for the strip, lots to bear in mind though if you have it large so to speak . Defo prefer the ride with 17's on mine for cruising than the 15's although you do have to keep an eye out for potholes as the tyres are of a lower profile there's not so much give in them for the wheel to handle the abuse being alloy so easy to damage them and you will have a firmer ride depending on suspension settings etc. again lots to consider, its what you want the car to do for you that counts
vibrating_Cake Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 13's 15's or 17's have the better tyre choices, 16's and 18's have less choice and they are more expensive per tyre thus the reason im back down to 15's from 16's on the capri, even though i think the 15's do look a tad too small still, i cant warrent the elastic band tyres on 17's to keep a good ground clearance
