i am in the middle of a rebuild and have got a 5 speed type 9 out of a diesel p100 j reg .but i have noticed that it has a longer bellhousing than another bellhousing i was given off a type 9

i know i can swap the housings but what about the input shaft as that will then stick past the housing by about 10 mm is this right.

iam fitting it to a pinto by the way

I'm with Vista, tried it, hated it, first is wayyy to low and 2nd is just as bad and very short, it may suit certain driving styles or engine setups though  although i've tried em on 2.3 V6s and pintos and soon changed to a 4 pot box, the V6 box is the best for ratios IMHO.

Put it this way as soon as another V6 box comes up it's going straight in P100 TD cos i don't even like the ratios on a diesel :( first is great if your pulling a away with a ton in the bed and going uphill otherwise its overly low for my taists and i run scrap in me P100 so often loaded.

Try it see what you think, you may get on with it? for 20 mins with a grinder it's worth a try ? just remember to bevel the end of the input shaft
