Fiesta Steve Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 looks like s2 bad breath lol.im pretty sure you can fit it to old skool ford.if you get the right boss Its not S2 Turbo as they have horn in the middle, looks like RS 1600i, or just an RS optional extra, the boss could be anything, looks the same as the one on my MK1 Fiesta.
Admin Vista Posted October 31, 2010 Admin Report Posted October 31, 2010 It's a Motor-sport wheel, I have one at home to go on my van. They were found on a variety of Fords in the late 70's (the part number suggests they were first fitted in 78) and I think they could be specified on new vehicles. The bosses can be changed to suit what ever you need by cutting out the existing one and welding in the one you need. They normally fetch a bit more than that one has.
capri71 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Thankyou all for the info Vista - I'm pleased that its an old skool one rather than of the plastic bumper generation and I'm pleased you dont think I payed too much - £41.50 was my max bid Cheers
capri71 Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 Little update it arrived and its in very decent condition for the age. The leather is fooked but I knew that and had bargained on retrimming anyway but the important parts are fine- removing the leather revealed the grip is solid and complete and good, as is the centre and boss, though not mk3 splined but thats no problem since I have a mk3 boss to fit to back. Nothing is bent or weekened or rust and a bloke is making me a new leather cover for it for £15 I gave him a photo and lots of measurements and I will just have to fit it and sew/lace it up - MrSteering, an ebay seller bit of rub and respray first and it will be as good as the NOS one thats on the bay now for £325
JP. Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Looks like you have purchaced an Original Capri mk3 RS steeringwheel. These where fited in Capri "Werks" Turbo's and Capri 3.0 RS ( German edition of the mk3 X-pack ). Have seen these wheels reaching fourtimes the amount you payed.
bortaf Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 The wheels are generic, it's the boss and horn/centre cap that dictates the fittment, it's an RS 4 spoke wheel is all, may well have been RS1600, capri, 5ierra or anything (deffo not capri looking at that boss), i've had RS 4 spokes on a Mk2 transit (capri boss), Mk4 and 5 cortina (cortina boss on 1, Mk1 fiesta boss on tother), in fact i've had the same wheel on my last 7 OSF just changed the boss and center cap. sold my last one without boss or center for £50 so that was a good price
capri71 Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 Generic, Yeah Bortaf - thats what I thought tbh - the only one I ever saw in a car was in a mates RS1600 - that car did have them as standard and is probs where most you'l see for sale came from... Listen mate, you don't happen to have the capri fitting bit still do ya? would save me some diying with the mk2 escort one it came with (which is available if anyone needs?)
