anyone lately changed engine size on logbook ok?

has anyone of late changed the engine size on there logbook

 

i have a 1100 shell but want to change it to 2000 cc (pinto)

have heard that the dvla are tightening up on engine swapps

and i same cases taking away the logbook

 

anyone had trouble or was it ok

did mine a couple months ago no prob , sent copys of engine reciept from who i bought it from and got my local garage who mot tests it to state that they inspected vehicle and can confirm the cc and engine number

been up on here a lot lately

basicly they want written confirmation of the engine number and correct cc from a qualified person, no what denotes that qualification is open to interpretation, i've done it for my own swaps and quite a few other people have done.

Have a search there's a copy i posted of the letter i used in one of the other threads, or make your own in publisher

I did that, no problemos. Mind you no engine number was listed on the v5 in the first place with my car.

I tend to find the poor luvs at the DVLA can only do one thing at once. Give em too much to do and their heads explode. Try again.

All this messing about when changing an engine is to do with the possibility of your not paying as much road tax. This doesn't matter with PLG (unless you are going for a really small engine) so I don't know why they bother with PLG.

i don't quite understand why they make it hard for you to let them know that you need to pay more road tax - i would have thought they would jump at that

 

i can understand the faff if you had a car with a massive engine and told them you swapped it for an 1100 or something

when i sent mine off they replied back asking for a letter on headed paper from the garage that did the install to confirm the change.

 

sent a reply back saying it was a DIY job i didnt hear anymore from them

Are they going to change it though? Have they sent you the V5 back. If they did, is it now correct or not?

they never asked me for that, just said they couldn't change it because it would change the tax bracket - will try again at some point but not in a massive hurry now tbh

A few years ago I changed the engine size for my Capri from 1.6 to 2.1 with no issues.

 

I'm currently doing a re-spray and engine swap in my Mk1 Cortina so sent off the V5C to keep it all legal. It came back with the colour changed and a letter asking for a copy of a receipt from the engine builder, or the garage that installed it or independent assessment from the likes of the RAC etc. to verify the cc and install.

 

As the engine isn't yet in the car I can't make the change to the V5C.

 

I find all this is designed to discourage the home builder from make any changes from the standard spec.

No, I think it's because of CO2 based tax brackets. Changing the engine of a car (reg post 2001) could mean you would pay less road tax, and that's what they want to avoid! Most engine swaps in the PLG tax class make no difference. We've got a 1.6 L transit and a 4.2 L Daimler paying the same PLG road tax.

Is this on an OSF? If so it shouldn't make any difference. Unless you were fitting a smaller engine, like 1.1L

Every time I have dealt with them they have been a right pain! have sent my logbook off about three weeks ago for colour and engine size change and its still not back yet!
