My new 'toy'. I know they stopped in 80, but this was registered Feb 81. It is running and MOT'd but after being left unused on my drive for 2 years by my daughter it needs lots of tidying up (so it is now mine!), that should keep me out of mischief!

Clicking on a pic will take you to some other photos in my Flickr set. It actually looks a lot better in the photos than in the flesh.

looks in good shape not a lot needs doing to that by the looks. 8)

Thanks, I think it is mainly superficial stuff. Although there are some small rust bubbles in a couple of places and I am not sure if they are better left or rubbed down now and treated?

Nice looking car, as above I clicked left to see the vast display oh police vehicles. I cant understand why they have unmarked cars which mimic the marked police vehicles? i.e BMW unmarked and marked. Strathclyde Police have a fleet of unmarked BMW. Its not rocket science.

Everything is about cost, more cars from one supplier, bigger discount. Nowadays everything is about doing things as cheaply as possible, not necessarily as well as possible.

yeah i know but a lot buy bulk from Ford or Vauxhall for pandas but they wont buy say a few Focus ST's for unmarked. Strathclyde has 2 ST's one marked one unmarked and they were seperately funded for an Intercept team. Anyway good luck with the Escort, mines is a Mk2 RS2000. Easy to work on.

Nice wee car , not a fan of the seats but loving the paint

Did you claim in Lue of storage costs ? ;)

L8r Bill

She is still costing me money now (bought her a bag on ebay) and she is 26 and married for 6 years!

If I had asked for storage money she would have turned it around to me paying her for it making the front of the house look nice or something similar. It is easier not going through the embarrassment of losing arguments to a 'child' (well, she is to me!).

Smart looking 4 door you have there, what are your plans for it then ?

Hi

I have got the Sparco seats out and got the original drivers seat in, apart from the seat all carpet etc is stripped out back to painted shell. As soon as I can find out where the water is leaking in I will anti rust the floor pan and boot, then paint it. Once the carpet etc is done I will have to decide about getting shot of the lowering and if i go back to original wheels. Until I can afford a respray I may get the inside standard and leave the outside until I have some money.

At the moment water is pooling on the floor pan after an hour or two of rain (when stationary) and I cannot see any sign of it coming in, unless it is around the screen and coming in that way and around the tunnel. Will give it a go tomorrow with the hose on one part of the car at a time to try to find it as there is too much coming in to do anything to it until leak is cured. If I had not got the Escort I would be wasting my time sitting around with my feet up watching football or on the computer browsing adult sites so i should count myself lucky!

Hi Fred,

If you're sitting in the car and can't see water coming in round the screen (should be visible running down from the screen rubbers if it is) or the doors, then it could be a heater 'bubble/plenum' rust hole.

This is open at the top where the scuttle panel grille is (just in front of the screen). You can get holes at the seams of the bubble to the bulkhead top panel, and the water runs through these into the car, and down the bulkhead to the floor (its meant to exit from the hole in the bottom of the bubble via a shaped plastic pipe).

Could also be the wiper arm axle to body seal.

Pouring water into/over these should tell...

Hi Steve,

Ok thanks for this, I had assumed windscreen seal as the rubber looks pretty knackered, but what you have suggested makes sense as I could not see water around the inside of the screen rubber. Will check it out later today as you have suggested.

I had a leek at the front of mine and it was the wiper arms as said above. I have brand new front and rear rubbers for a Mk2 sitting in my garage if you need them. I bought them from East Kent trim but didn't use them as the Mk2 and Mk2 RS is slightly different. I would let them go for £10 plus whatever it costs to post them.

Cheers

Hi David,

I have PM'd re the rubbers. And did the wiper arm leak you had cause a lot of water to come in? With mine the water really is coming in a lot, after a few hours of rain there are pools of water on the floor pan.

It probably is the plenum chamber if you take the plastic pipe off (just pulls off by hand) you can get your finger inside you may feel a hole amongst the dead leaves. If it is you may have to remove the heater from inside the car to repair this area.

If not then the door rubbers are a likely cause, new ones are available from East Kent Trims who are based in Deal Kent.
