We are trying to sell the XR3i that we bought from Eddie here last year because we don't really need it and we need the money, so, I put it twice on flea-bay and after having lots of people promising to turn up to view the car and then not even bothering to turn up or even let us know they weren't coming (the car is garaged elsewhere so we have to go and get it to bring it home for viewings) I then put it on Pistonheads. I have had a few enquiries, one guy promised to come last Weds then said he couldn't make it but would come on Sunday just gone. I e-mailed him back on Weds and said, okay, fine by us for Sunday but could he please let us know if he couldn't make it and also ring when he was leaving his house ... Sunday morning came and went and so Ian called the guy and first of all didn't know who he was or what he was ringing about and then told us he was in the middle of grouting his kitchen and his mate who knows about cars couldn't make it ... cheers for letting is know I thought.

so ... now I have been approached via e-mail by a guy who seems quite interested in the XR and has seen the advert on Pistonheads. His e-mails sounded a bit "thick" but I thought maybe he was just not good at technology so didn't write him off and there have been e-mails going back and forth with a day or so gap in between me replying and him replying back to me. So I told him that we would accept £1350 for the car but no lower (it is advertised for £1500). I just got this e-mail back from him and I think it sounds well dodgy ... or is it me just being paranoid after all the dickheads we have encountered so far?

No, I don't think it is. Who talks like that?

It sounds like someone who's trying to be English and sound official, but not quite pulling it off.

Well, I did think the English was bad but was giving him the benefit of the doubt because I figured he may be a bit of a thicky and a technophobe and didn't want to insult him ... I will not bother to reply. Thanks guys

As a fully paid up member of the Thick as Sh1t Society I think it was a very well constructed and eloquent email COS he seems such a genuine buyer, bless him

run forrest run :)

Jo you could allways call his bluff and say send the draft and once the funds are cleared you can pick the car up,does sound like a scam but when i had the classic car garage we had alot of irish buyers send a cheaque for vehicles with out seeing them in the flesh and bought on discription and photos,

When I sold my Accord I got jerked around by a guy from Dublin who at the last minute (after I had told other buyers it was sold to him) sent me a demand that, due to his having to pay vat/import duty etc, he was reducing his offer by 27%. Jog on brother. Next time I got an email similiar to yours from another "buyer" I replied that when someone arrived with folding pictures of Good Queen Bess 2nd the car would be released, they didn't appear with the cash. It was eventually sold locally to a guy who had seen it at a show and then read my ad. There are some people who scam, and some who appear to take pleasure in jerking folk around. Sad. Hope you sell it soon, it's a nightmare.
