jason-nike Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Hi All, Sadly my MK1 Escort Mexico replica has died. It had a little 1300 engine in which has dropped a piston. I know its an ideal time to replace with maybe a 2l pinto. Is there anyone or anywhere in East Sussex that could supply and fit an engine and gearbox I am not a mechanic. What sort of cost would this be? Really want to get this on the road again as the car was a surprise wedding present from my wife!!!! Any help muchly appreciated Jason Heres a piccy my car:
over_head_cam Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Lovely looking car m8 and what a pukka present Most of us on here aren't mechanics either If you don't want to spend bundles then I'd say do as much of the work as you can yourself. Pinto to Escort is one of the most common mods so there is a lot of info on the site and in peoples heads too. Some parts are needed and some can be modified from existing, the choice is your budget I'll start a list of the bits that you will probably need and see what people can add or remove 1. Pinto lol
mk1estate Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Where in East Sussex are you, me and sambo (my son) are in Bexhill and will always help OSF members out. i have a shed full of bits which may come in handy and we have a engine crane and 4 wheel trailer if you need to borrow it.We have done the pinto route a few times, drop me a pm if you want any help/advise. your welcome to a cuppa and a chat
fieldy1972 Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 im just outside brighton and if you decide to sort it yourself with the help of mk1estate , i dont mind helping out . im sure with 4 pairs of hands it would take long
Col-ashtonmobile Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 well mate if you want my opinion, turn it into a twin cam replica , you wont find a 'G' reg mexico with square headlamps as they did,nt make one , but they made a twin cam and i reckon your car is crying out to be a twin cam rep , thats what i would do no hesitation
Col-ashtonmobile Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 just noticed you,ve even still got the external bonnet release ..... excellant
jason-nike Posted June 17, 2011 Author Report Posted June 17, 2011 Hi all, Many thanks for all the replies. I am in Seaford, East Sussex. One thing to do is change lights to round lamps, must get engine sorted first. Just got to get hold of one, any recommendations?

jason-nike Posted June 17, 2011 Author Report Posted June 17, 2011 Hi all,Many thanks for all the replies. I am in Seaford, East Sussex. Just got to get hold of one, any recommendations? got a pinto 205 block, comes complete (single carb, ford manifold) good runner before removing.£170 Whereabouts are you mate?? Is it easy to fit?
evil knievel Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 I'm in East Sussex also so if you need some extra man power don't hesitate to ask, also probably got all the tools you'll need
jason-nike Posted June 18, 2011 Author Report Posted June 18, 2011 Hi to everyone, many thanks for the replies. Looks like I will be looking for a 1600 engine or similar as should be easier to fit (so I am told) Just need to source and engine
glenbo Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 if you wanted to buy tilbrooks pinto i can pick it up at santa pod and bring it back to hastings as we both run osfdc,if thats ok with everyone
jason-nike Posted June 18, 2011 Author Report Posted June 18, 2011 WOW, thats a great offer, many many thanks Would it bolt straight in or would there be work required. Have to go easy as on a budget (wish I wasnt tho)
glenbo Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 as long as the pinto has the correct sump and engine mounts the other mods are not much, sort a few wires, plumb in rad, change exhaust think thats about it unless anyone else can think of anything
BaileyMex Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 going crossflow power then?? Go on the Cross Flows's
jason-nike Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 If I can get 1, a crossflow it will be. Just cant get car done soon enough, want to get to old skool meetings
over_head_cam Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 If you want to get back on the road ASAP then I'd say whack another 1300 in until you want to upgrade. That way you'll be out and about and you won't break the bank. The 1300's are cheap
w p e Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 all this talking about it you could have fitted the pinto by now
mk1estate Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 That pinto sounds good if you dont want it i maybe interested especialy if it could be delivered lol. There must be a lot of 1300 xflows out there. I do have a spare 1.6 here but would like to keep hold of it. I suppose if i go the pinto route then id have the xflow which is in my car now as spare as well....omg im getting to old to make these decisions lol. My advise is get a 1.3 and get it swopped over then you back on the road in under a day with min costs, you can pick up a 1.3 for under £100 and thats about all it will cost other than a change of oil, filters and maybe a few gaskets if i dont have any here, if the engine is local to Hastings i can even collect it for you
mk1estate Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 1.3 xflows @ £120 each on the flea give him a call on 07855985220
jason-nike Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Hopefully found an engine local to me. Just got to collect and then work out how to fit an engine now
mk1estate Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 ive said i can help with collecting the engine for you so long as it aint too far away and i can help changing the engine round for you too, just waiting for the call. We can get it collected and fitted in a day and then your back on the road.
