Waste of time, only put there to keep you thinking it might happen.

Been loads of different ones, bit like the western extension of the London Congestion ripoff, 75% of those that answered the "Do you want it to go ahead" said NO, still did it though.

Bit like the lottery keep those in poverty jumping to get the maggot on the hook that is temptingly close, but never attainable.

i should have mentioned that this is on a brand new section of the direct.gov web-site, only created in last couple of weeks.

If the petition gets 100,000 signatures it then becomes eligable for discussion in the house of commons.

Rubbish it if you like but for the 5 seconds it takes to complete its got to be worth a punt.

See what I mean, they want you to have hope :no::no:

Just like how good they were to us mere "Johnny Go To Works" when they knocked a penny off of fuel, we were all so happy, the firking petrol staions put it up 3p in the 2 weeks before the budget.

Sign your petitions for all the good it will do.

And as has they(the government) have said before, the free road tax will be knocked on the head completely if everyone keeps on trying to having it extended. There are also enough non old car people who complain about older cars getting freebies as it is, without givin them any more ammo.

Bit like the black and white number plate concession for older cars. That too is in constant jeopordy as people with post 73 cars continuing to use them illegally.

well it's up to 100 - just needs a few more to sign

can't hurt - there's no way people petitioning for this would cause them to scrap the existing, that's just paranoid.

It was labour that scrapped it wasn't it? so seeing as they aren't in charge (for the moment) now would seem to be a very good time to petition for it's re-instatement.

it's highly unlikely but...

i agree that it is highly unlikely but its got to be a go. Didnt imagine this would get such negative comments  , i do see where your coming from though.

Theres also the argument that any concession on road tax, IE over 25yr rolling exception, means they have more control over your driving habits.

I mean they could say, 'yeah you can have free tax, but you can't use the car for work, you must have another car insured in your name and are banned from using it in city centres'

Thats how it is on the continent and being a part of the EU, its how it will eventually be here. Why quicken the process...?

No, I'll keep paying for tax and use MY car whenever I want.

No offence, but its partly cos we have this same old argument (and petition) every other month across every forum. No wonder the Government and DVLA get pissed off with it, so yes it does do harm in the long term.
